Voices and highs sound really good. Looking at the speakers you’d think they’d have a ton of bass but they are kind of lacking in that area.
What are they? They have a lot going on on the front panel.

Sansui SP-3500's I think. I've never been a fan of Japanese speakers, they didn't have the east coast low muddy sound or a bright west coast sound, great party speakers but not as good as others you can find. I had a pair of Pioneer CS 907's or something (with the led lights) and they sounded great until I replaced them with Advents.
Yup, they are SP-3500s. They don’t really compare to my ADS L500s and those take up half the space so I think these will end up on KSL shortly. I just need to refinish the cabinets.

We’ve covered the sound but I almost want to keep these just for the looks. These wood lattice grills are a work of art. Cabinets sanded, oiled and waxed. Ready to go but maybe they will stick around for a bit.

That reminds me of a discussion I had with my 93 yo father in law. He wanted me to get rid of a broken clock that was in the room he uses. I liked the way the clock looked and it sort of tied the room together. He thought that was weird. He didn't understand that I use my phone to check the time. He's probably thinking kids these days.
I had a Soldano SP-77 for a while but sold it because they were going for quite a bit, Mine went to Hong Kong.
I have a Dynaco ST-70 waiting to be rebuilt, eventually It will power the Khorns. I acquired it and a few other tube amps after a friend died, his son was cleaning out his shop and was ready to throw them into the scrap pile. I was also able to save a Stephens TruSonic 206 AXA, I'm hoping to find another (or just build one of the mono amps).
Been a good couple of days for noise makers in this house.
I had sent the tweeters and woofers to the ADS wizard Richard So for some love. All I knew was that one surround had a small tear in it but I sent everything so he could look it over. They sounded great so I wasn't expecting issues with the other parts but he said everything had issues. So these are basically brand new now. There's a good chance I won't ever sell these speakers.

Got my first ever run of circuit boards. This one is a bit of a cluster. I was using the free version of the software to design it, and it limits you to the size of the board you can work for free. But I like the software, so I have paid for it, and am working on a new version. I also figured out how to update my libraries in the software with footprint models and 3d cad models from mouser, so I can use device specific footprints. Makes life much easier. Anyways, pretty stoked. I think I am going to stuff some parts in there tonight and see if it works. It is a simple buffer circuit designed to isolate stages of the audio signal, and it makes sure the source is driving a high impedance loads, and that the next stage sees a low impedance. I'm already working on a redesign that will be a much nicer laid out board and not as cramped, and much better signal runs.
Anyway, I'm pretty stoked that I figured out how to actually make a manufactured part. The grand plan to design and build my own electronics stuff suddenly seems so much a possibility.

That amp camp amp is pretty cool, but supposedly the sound quality is not there. This circuit I am playing with is strictly an active buffer. It serves to isolate the previous stage of an audio signal (think cd player or tuner) form the following section. For one section to drive the next, the output of the previous section needs to have low impedance, while the driven section needs to have high impedance so it can be driven by the previous section. A buffer shows very high input impedance, making it easy to drive, and low output impedance, so it can drive hard to drive components. Being a powered circuit, you need a power supply, so I integrated it into the board. It takes a 15vAC (pretty standard) and converts it to ballpark 21vDC, and then regulates it down to 18v, and the via diodes drops it to +-16vdc for the buffer. The buffer produces an exact match of the input and can drive pretty much any hard to drive amplifier. So this is a component. Working on a reworked version, and the BOM,. So it would be easy to build. So this could essentially serve as a preamplifier between your source and your amp, but this does not have an attenuator for volume control. Attenuators are frequently placed after the buffer in commercial preamplifier, and many preamplifiers have these buffers right before final output.

Here's the latest piece. Amplifier power supply pcb with rectifier. Will get you from the transformer to your amplifier and make sure there is lots of clean DC power available for your amplifier. It has options to add snubber caps to the bridge rectifier diodes, as well as optional output snubbers, optional bleeder resistors, and optional led rail power indicators. 2 different capacitance designs. One for up to 48,000uf, and the other good up to 72,000uf. Should be good up to the 100+-vdc output. These would be for an ab class amp, not so much for class a. Just wrapped up buding one for my gb150d amp to replace my total franken power supply I currently have in there.. Need to get off my duff and go install it.

Well it works, time to finish up the BOM and order up a set of parts to build a nice one. Sound is pretty good, but I used a bunch of old parts yanked out of a couple different low level yamahas for the power filter caps and rectifier. Those 20 year old cheapo yamaha caps aren't what the doctor ordered, or the rectifier I abused with my soldering iron to get it out. But stevie ray sounds pretty nice. The guy I bought my turn table from has an impressive vinyl collection with a bunch of duplicates and he was willing to sell them off for cheap. I was heading out his way and I hit him up to see if I could pick through his stuff some more.

They are great! Definitely keepers. So fun to listen to and they sound good with all sorts of music. Even if I wanted to sell them I’m not sure the wife would let me, she’s in love with them too.
My next upgrade might be the amp. I’m curious what more power would do for them. I’ve kind of got my eye on a Rogue Sphinx which Zu says works really well with the DWs.
That's what I'm using, the Sphinx v.1, although I read that v.3 has much improved phono section. You can also play around with the tubes to tailor the sound more toward your liking, although the factory-supplied tubes are pretty good.
The Sphinx definitely provides a solid base response. Way better than my previous Sim Audio Celeste. And I agree that it matches well with the Dirty Weekend. Was running it originally with the Lynn Ninkas, but could tell right away that those speakers weren't a good match as far as base was concerned.
spent the evening last night spinning vinyl and thinking about upgrading my amp setup - the Sphinx v.3 looks sweet, but i don't need anywhere close to 100wpc - i can get by with 1wpc. @viva, have you run it with more efficient speakers, and, if so, how do you like it?

i really like the fact that (virtually) all of the wiring is point to point, no PCBs, and a ton fo flexibility in configuration. it's also both pre and power, and i like the tube layout - steve huff says it might be the best audiophile buy of all time:
