Wouldn’t power of attorney and an in person visit to motor vehicle work?
The main reason I use them is to get an idea of the long term forecast. A lot of apps only look forward a week or so. But where I am, accuweather actually is pretty accurate with the "rain starting/ending in x minutes" minutecast. So there's that too. I just don't need to know that for some town in China.
That sucks, sorry to hear. Would power of attorney allow you to take care of it? Failing that maybe sell into another state. Some states allow you to register a purchased vehicle with a missing title. (Guys here in CA often deal with that with dirt bikes they want to buy from out of state.)
Of all things, NYS DMV actually specifies that a POA can not be used to replace a lost title or change of address. It can be used to sell the vehicle or sell a home but not for something so fucking basic. I've been trying to find a lawyer that specializes in DMV law but all I ever find is traffic ticket fixers. I have also tried to get an appointment with the title division at DMV headquarters in Albany but apparently this problem doesn't qualify. If anyone knows a DMV lawyer point me in their direction.
@evdog - We tried to trade it to a Hyundai dealer in CT and they said no problem, just bring your dad with his valid State Issued photo ID and he can sign a form...
I got empathy for ya. I've signed myself up for that duty but lucky my dad has really prioritized having their affairs in order. It sounds like your FIL, is lucky he's got you.
Assuming you have POA, the form 902 seems to indicate that the may be worth giving it a shot. Its just gonna come down to the human that opens the envelope. Stuff that envelope full of whatever documentation you've got and a letter explaining the situation.
So I go to PT for my radiation-fried neck about once a month. Wednesday I go in there and the woman's wearing a mask. She's worn one a lot through covid so I didn't think much of it. She's there about a foot a way from me massaging my neck and she starts to hack up a lung. She goes in the bathroom, coughing her brains out, then finally comes back.
She says, "I guess the cold meds wore off, sorry. I took yesterday off because I was too sick but I really needed to work today."
Last night I started hacking and now I'm sick as a dog. WTF, lady? You didn't even tell me until you had to? Annoying as a motherfucker.
Healthcare workers are the worst when it comes to staying home if they’re ill and physicians are the worst of the bunch.

Funny you say that, I have an appointment with my rep on Tuesday when he has hours in the local office for something else. It looks like I'm asking him for two things.
Probably so shitty kids can't steal their senior parents cars when they're not paying attention. I bet a lot of times when people are aging and money is needed kids do bad things and the state is trying to protect them. It's crazy though because you can sell a house with a POA.
Meh I don't feel too bad, I was sure it was a cold but my wife got me to test and voila. This fucking year, though...I've taken some lumps this year for sure.
I'm supposed to fly to Utah Wednesday, not sure what the plan is on that. Apparently this year's covid is a lot milder and shorter, if I test negative I'm gonna go. Haven't quite figured out what to do if I test positive. I'm not gonna get on a plane if I'm still positive.
At least I'm in good company.
Bummer we're in the same boat, B and ZZZ. Feel better (and I'll try to do the same)
I always bring a good N95 in my carry-on these days. Couple months ago I sat next to a guy who was coughing and sneezing, I said wtf guy and popped on my mask while he made excuses.
Well that will be the last time I engage a Pivot heel by hand. X-rays pending.

Yikes. Time to switch to attacks
Oof. That's gotta sting a little.
