The bigger the American flag, the more they love Putin.

Doesn’t annoy me as much baffles me - the existence of White Claw Zero. A 0% alcohol seltzer is just a flavored seltzer water right? This isn’t even NA beer.
Hahahaha. I didn't even know that existed. I too am baffled. Guess they're right back to square one with that product. Brilliant marketing from the brand I suppose. Charge 3x what a flavored seltzer water costs for literally the same thing (well, arguably worse actually) and the masses will be all over it. It's the same reasoning that suburban basic white chicks eschew "station wagons" but toss on some cheap black plastic body cladding, raise it 1/4", and relabel it an "SUV" and those same people are like "I MUST HAVE IT!!!"
To piggyback off your post, the sheer effectiveness of marketing on the gullible masses annoys me. I know it's pure psychology, but why are people like this?

A can of Liquid Death is almost $3.
It's just a can of plain, unflavored, still water.

How about people who pay for bottled water at sporting events? Beer is equally exorbitant, but at least it's not available free elsewhere.
I don;t go to live sports much--a couple of VGK games in the last few years. Do they let you bring your own water or an empty bottle to fill at various venues?
Politcal yard signs annoy me. No one in history has ever changed their vote because of a yard sign. The only reason people put up signs is to show solidarity with their tribe and to annoy the other tribe. Like the guy who put up a Trump sign on his back deck facing our back yard, where only we could see it. Landlord made him take it down. OTOH the guy came rushing over with a fire extinguisher when I had a grease fire in my grill--a good guy, except for poltics.
Yeah, I was looking forward to getting to know our across the street neighbors until they put up a sign for the wrong mayoral candidate (Rene Gonzalez). Now I know they may be nice guys but their politics are off kilter. Rene "ouch, you touched me, police!" Gonzalez has had a number of disqualifying incidents recently
Yeah, long list but only three or four are somewhat plausible. Keith Wilson was my #1 pick, but I kind of love Duncan Witherspoon's gonzo style too: https://www.opb.org/article/2024/09/...outputType=amp
(I promise that link is worth a click, he channels Hunter S Thompson like a pro)
I think plenty of people vote on down ballot races based on yard signs.
Like if they see a bunch of yards with Kamala signs that also have signs for candidates X, Y, and Z, they'll vote for / against X, Y, and Z based on their feelings for Kamala without doing any further research on those candidates.

Pretty much. There's a lady in my neighborhood (mom of my daughter's friend) who has a new "Swifties for Harris" sign. Not sure she'll exactly sway the Trumpy boomers in my hood, but whatever. It at least got a chuckle out of me since she's a sooper basic white chick, ie typical Swifty. Haha. That said, I don't have a problem with signs for candidates for small, local stuff where NOBODY knows the person's name. Maybe those ones could make a difference? Like for local County Commissioners, Sheriffs, District Judges, etc.
Yeah, my neighborhood has 10x as many signs for the mayoral / city council campaigns vs the presidential campaign. Putting up a Kamala sign in this neighborhood is like putting up a sign that says "we breathe air in this household"
In Truckee people don't dare put signs in their yards. All the signs are in public rights of way in strategic spots and there will be signs for Trump, Harris and pretty much all the down ballot candidates all in one place, so no help there. The partisan offices are easy; I don't think I've ever split a ticket in my life. For the non partisan ones--like PUD directors I check out the local nonprofit monthly, Moonshine Ink, or, if I'm desperate, I might actually read a candidate statement or listen to a forum. Or not vote for the office.
In the DC area it was always great to come across one of the however many no-hopers there are for president signs. Beyond Libertarian or Green, you got parties you’d never heard of.
It’s subtly interesting that last weekend one of the local parties distributed yard signs on one of the 2 ways to get to the early polling place and the number of people ( 50%) who put up down ballot and skipped the orange guy at the head. Not of course the guy with th un conspiracy yard sign.
that I have to refresh about every other thread before it will load
Always have a backup
I don’t like them either, and I don’t have any. But they do consistently show a small impact on outcomes in close races. Which is a damn shame, since that justifies the ongoing investment in them. Also see: social proof.Quote:

You spelled center wrong. :P
Colour me shocked that my American neighbour would labour on about my spelling. Just do me a favour and humour me please.
Maybe if you sent him a cheque?
My wife had to get a new iphone from the ATT store. They told her she had to buy insurance to get the deal but she could cancel in 2 weeks. As best as I can tell from the googles this is a scam pulled by the salesrep to meet metrics. Am I wrong? In any case, $17/month insurance on a $10/month phone seems like a bad deal. Anyway, I canceled it since the email from the insurance co said I could any time. We'll see if ATT retaliates.
