I'm with L2S. At least in my profession, CE is a joke. There is no requirement that I actually take CE classes relevant to my exact line of work, just that I get enough credits to check a box. And there are so many bullshit ways to get them, with home study and the like.
None of that is to say that continually educating yourself about your job is a bad thing; it's a great thing! And it's what I would expect of anyone who cares about doing their job well. Which is the whole point. Anyone who cares about doing their job well will continue to educate themselves about their job, regardless of requirements. And anyone who doesn't care will just do whatever to check the box.
The whole CE thing is just to make the profession look good, and -- at least in the case of law -- ends up supporting a whole bullshit cottage industry around it.
