Google knows it is closed but doesn't make that apparent unless you actually go to get more info. I was looking for a popular place that has many locations around Boston. When I searched, it showed up and I headed general direction. When it wasn't there I looked at google again, actually clicked on the target and it said it was closed. In my opinion, when you are searching for something on a map there really isn't much use showing you a shut down business location. I searched for another one and it brought up one that I knew for a fact was closed. Looks like Q-dubs moved out of the financial district... bummer.
I guess that's what makes us city folk different from hicks like you... if something is closed we can just go someplace else, we don't bother calling a place that is slammed for lunch we walked 5 minutes to just to make sure google isn't sending us on a wild goose chase. I guess when you have limited options you know all the schedules of every place around though.
