They were worn by a businessman still in his work duds, sitting next to me at the kid's gymnastics joint. How could a person tolerate such ill-fitting footwear?

I raise you all the people on Trax tonight wearing their pants around their thighs. How do you walk in either?
$50 +/- repair cost vs $200-$300 ++ replacement costs may at least keep more stuff out of the landfill....or at least less clutter.
The other annoying and hypocritical component is when companies like Outdoor Research play the 'Green & Responsible card', ie:
But then make products with 'planned obsolescence', like zippers that break on garments that could last for decades if cared for properly with little effort. Rather than repairing their crap like Patagonia, they replace them with another garment with the same crappy zipper.Quote:
This piece is made with 100% recycled polyester and features responsibly sourced 700+ fill power-down insulation.....
Rather than waiting for the above (3-4 weeks), I did eat my words and ordered a Black Diamond First Light Hybrid. The Black Diamond zippers are in another league compared to Outdoor Research. I still will repair the zipper on the 2nd OR jacket and use it or give it to someone.
Yeah, I suppose it shouldn't be surprising. The super rich are living in a world I can barely comprehend.
...and those shoes Norseman posted. WTF? Honestly it looks exactly when a five year old puts on their dad's shoes. How many sizes too big do you think those are?
Password complexity annoys me. Why do we need 8 characters with symbols, caps etc? Are they really worried someone will crack my code if it’s just a 4 digit PIN?
I'm a fan of YKK's Vislon, resin teeth in a bigger gauge. Haven't had any break or skip so far unlike the watertight zips- can't stand those. Don't have to hold jacket taught when zipping with the Vislon style. Water seepage has never been an issue where I live & the watertight ones to me are a PITA as they start to age, the coating dries up and causes zipper to snag.
I have 20+ y/o jackets and fleece tops made in the USA from TNF and Pata that use the Vislon zips- still perfect to this day.

I had no idea there was so much to know about zippers! :)
Are pedestrian crosswalks now the playing fields for a game of chicken between pedestrians and cars?
Around here pedestrians won't even break stride entering crosswalks in order to test the ABS systems of cars.
So glad they ditched waterproof zippers. Fuck that shit. Never last that long. Hard to zip. And wtf I’m not in a rainforest.
Thanks for that. I have a couple Patagonia jackets 30 years old or so that still work great. Here's some zippers from my herd of jackets to see how lame the Outdoor Research zippers are by comparison:

Vehicles that stop at non-crosswalks to allow jaywalkers to cross are just as annoying a vehicles that don’t stop at crosswalks for peds waiting…

That whole trend of hidden/small/water resistant zippers was a huge bunch of bullshit. Just give me something big I can yank hard on, if you know what I'm saying :tdo13::FIREdevil
I'm sure this isn't the case everywhere, but in Washington every intersection is considered a crosswalk unless specifically marked otherwise.
$50 vs $200-300 would be a no brainer to repair. Although it would still be annoying that an expensive piece came with a shitty zipper. But I have a bunch of camping gear (fleece jacket, vest, old backpack, bike hydration pack) that cost a lot less than that and it's close to a wash to replace vs repair. All it would take is a new zipper to keep them alive. The one top loader back pack is 25 yrs old and I still use for trail work a ton, but the top pocket zipper is busted and I've lost a number of small items. Don't want to lose keys/wallet.
Zipper repair - Are we talking about the actual tape ripping or other repairs? Most zipper fixes (sliders breaking, stops popping off, misalignment, etc…) take like 2 min max and you can buy zipper repair kits with replacement pieces for all different types on AMZN for $5.

The broken zippers I have are missing teeth or the teeth are mangled so the slider gets derailed. Some of them just won't stay together once zipped up. I've tried a bunch of zipper fix tricks and they haven't worked.
Another annoyance. I've been using an old laptop lately while my good one is getting repaired.
The old one has some sort of malware on it that re-directs any google search to Bing. I fucking hate Bing.
Yep, those are the best. My wife has both budget and top of the line Big Agnes puffys which both have the Vislon. I saw a coworkers Stio puffy w/ that zipper yesterday...Meanwhile my newest Patagonia puffy is about to need its zipper replaced for a 2nd time. I wanna try to find a local seamstress to put on a Vislon.
