Last week I broke the side mirror on my car by backing out of a tight parking space and hitting the mirror on the car next to me. I've never done that before and I partially blame the backup camera. Back in the old days I would have been watching my mirrors more! In any event the glass is fine and most of the assembly is fine except the mounting plate that secures the mirror to the door fitting is broken. Looked up the part and of course you pretty much have to buy an entire new mirror assembly. Honda has the balls to charge almost $500 for it. Knockoffs are in the $100 ball park. I've got the mirror off the car and I'm going to try to glue it back together, but I don't have a lot of confident that's going to work. I have a feeling I'll be buying a replacement part, but I'm sure as hell not paying $500 for the Honda OEM!
Here's a photo. If anyone has any experience with this please tell me if I'm wasting my time trying to glue it. Such bullshit that a part worth probably 50 cents is the only thing that failed, but I'll need to spend over $100 for a new mirror.

My other thought was to JB Weld the plastic mounting plate onto the metal plate for the mirror. Right now it is held in place by three screws. That wouldn' t affect the ability to remove the entire mirror from the car so not sure there's even a downside to that although it wouldn't fix the root cause which is that this mounting plate is broken. Fucking cars...
