^^^Each year I reconsider going to a show for the first time in 20+ years. Then I see a vid like that and realize I have no interest in hanging out in that crowd.
The only thing l like more than being in that crowd for a day is being in it for four days, I love festivals.

I don't know, it's part of what I grew up with growing with them, helping the band transition from a listserve in the late 80's to the usenet group I helped create, sharing tapes, taping many many show, road trips, hiatus, and then finding the joy again after a decade plus off, and just realizing that when you hear a really good one, you just cry. It taps into something joyful. Something that you need and want in your life.
There was a moment tonight that did that for me. I can't say any other musical act could ever do that for me, reach right into me and make me cry from happiness alone.
Bach does it, Beethoven does it, but, they don't compare musically. There is something about being there and feeling that jam that just fucking gets to me. I always laugh, I always say, oh god, this sucks. But there are moments that are just like hoooooly fuck.
It's an acquired taste for sure. It's like skinning. Honestly. Put the work in on the up, you might get shafted and be like why the fuck did I just spend 3 hours slogging for this. Or, it might blow your mind.
That's the only way I can describe my journey for the last 30 years. But I definitely invite every opportunity.
And they are fucking really conscious people who know where they are at and try to make the world better at their expense for sure.

I appreciate a band that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and Phish certainly doesn’t as evidenced by their history. I saw it again in their fun and banter between songs last night and especially Trey in his 3rd set “Good Luck” shirt.
As for the scene, I personally find it to be mostly harmless and amusing especially when viewed through Bobby’s lens of the ‘Estimated Prophet’ if I am allowed to continue to perpetuate the old Grateful Dead ==> Phish lineage comparison.
I love to visit with the Estimated Prophet, but don’t want to live with them.

This is true for me as well… music and dancing are powerful for me in their own right. Would I have gotten this perspective without the drugs? I don’t know. Ghost>Slave was killer. Loved the Dw/D and Miss You, love Trey slow jams, YEM also kicked ass, fell asleep at the end of YEM. The mix was outstanding, so freaking clean. TTE actually sounded good last night.

^^ my GF’s folks live in Lititz, PA. We stayed at the hotel there a few years ago, place is super cool. A lot of what happens there is touring acts set up their stage so the crew can train on setup, teardown, operation etc before they take the show on the road.
I think Trey’s guitar tech lives in Lititz too.
