So uh Tahoe is horrifically smoked-out right now -- and I don't mean Blazed-On. AQI in South Lake Tahoe is around 400 right now.
No wet weather on the horizon, and seems likely that the smoke/fire situation will not change. Is it possible that Phish would cancel the Tahoe shows? I cannot imagine wanting to play music or do anything outside without AT LEAST an N95 on. Damnit.
The smoke situation could change later this week. Winds have been moderate to strong and out of the southwest for the last few days, blowing smoke from the Caldor Fire directly into Tahoe, creating extremely poor air quality. Yesterday afternoon I saw AQIs of 500-700. It's not good. However, on Thursday a trough is forecasted to move onshore and switch up the wind direction possibly through the weekend....that could provide a break in the smoke for Tahoe, but I'm not sure how long it will last. If the winds shift back to the W-SW on Mon-Tues it could be terrible again.Quote:

The other issue is that if the fire keeps making a run to the NE, local officials will probably not want an extra 10,000 people in town.
And vibes to all of those directly affected by the fires. Phish cancelling these shows is a 1st world problem.
Agreed. After thinking about it further, I would guess 10% chance these shows happen. UNLESS they move them indoors...and indoors was in Reno or Sac or something. Wonder if they can book that on such short notice. They would be crazy to think this show will go forward.
(Where are you cm? I figured Ten-Mile Vistas meant Breckenridge CO, but sure doesn't sound like it!)

The Eric Church concerts at Harvey's for this coming Fri & Sat were postponed until 2022. Phish Tahoe looking extremely unlikely.

You can ride from the Gorge to Ancient Lakes area. Mix of pavement, gravel/dirt/sand roads, and some single track.

Ancient lakes is either rocky single track or relatively smooth double track. Popular with the horses and as a winter mtb destination. I’m not sure if any roads connect from the south side of the coulee and the main route around is a major highway.Quote:

The gorge is smack in the middle of lots of agriculture so there’s a ton of flat/rolling road and gravel from the parking lot. I’d probably head south towards the feathers and then into the Frenchman hills rather than ride through George and Quincy.

Show #100 last night. A real hoot. Been riding my bike everyday. Actually great road riding around here. Came through an intersection yesterday morning and another cyclist came up behind me. Offer me a draft. We then traded pulls for a bit and chatted the 7 or 8 miles back to camp. He's been seeing shows since 87. Phish fans are the best.

You can ride right to the Gorge from Ancient Lakes or Frenchman Coulee along the double track on Babcock Bench.

Feeling thankful that I got my east coast ass up to the Gorge once. 4th of July weekend in '04 for "The Dead" with the remaining Allman Bros opening and sitting in.
Fireworks were (are?) legal up there.
We had a pop top Eurovan before #vanlife was a thing.

Sooper fun weekend at the gorge. My favorite was Saturday night although many in our crew leaned towards Sunday. Early lineup for the terraces was worth it as always. Decent breeze for the first two nights made it feel pretty covid safe.Attachment 384089
