My wife and I circumnavigated Manhattan Island in our kayaks years ago. It was a 35-mile trip I think, long day. We went with a kayak club based in New Jersey. The guy who led the trip had done it a bunch of times and told stories about finding dead bodies in the East River. I remember racing against the Staten Island ferry to get from the Statue of Liberty across to the southern tip of Manhattan was quite "exciting." In the afternoon we came down the Hudson in a pretty big swell, that was a little sketchy too. I think the year we did it was the year before the Twin Towers came down. Awesome experience. The club even gave us a certificate for completing the trip. We still got 'em hanging on the wall. :)
