I was a bit fat at 117 underfoot. Would do a 105 - 108 underfoot 190ish length ski, preferably something not too heavy with some kind of beefy touring binding

Agreed. Though if I was going this year I was bringing two pair. 106 underfoot for the tours and a beefy 117 underfoot for resort crushing days. My X106 were fine for the most part but I really wanted something *longer/stiffer/ heavier for the lift access days.
*soft ball
Heresy!
;-)
If you're going Chamonixing with your best carabiners, harness and gauloises, you might need the shorter, skinnier skis for the first coolwars.
But Andermatt and Disentis are for the most part about big honking railing around wild snow in big vistas, wide bowls and the occasional chute, moistly above treeline.
If groimers are on ze menu, of which there are aplenty, then yeah, maybe thin it down a bit. Me? I'm on the 200cm 120s doing lots of the n00dly st0ner turns.
Pro Riders with P18s and Day Trekkers :-)
106 to 110 underfoot for a one Ski travel ski would be fine. My x106 did just fine but a few of the days I really long for my 191 Lhasa Fats.
Lots of big open steep lines to be had.
damn ....im gettin the itch...
Well I'm an east coast guy. Not that gnar. Lots of n00dly stoner turns myself. My daily drivers are either 98mm or 104mm underfoot. I JUST got started touring last year but my touring rig was given to me and is old and heavy and also not that fat underfoot (101mm) .
So... bring my daily drivers cause I'm used to em? Or borrow/rent?
My brother in law might be doing this trip too, he'd be in the same boat. Pretty ripping skiier (and all around great d00d) but he works for State Street 9-5 M-F and has 3 kids. So he defines weekend warrior, and has never been touring. (Some of you guys might have met him at the last Fenway maggot summit)
Bring your 104’s and rent phatter if ya want.
There is not that much touring for most of us.
Dobedoebedoesbedo went on a big tour elsewhere, but some of us did the big day in St. Moritz without touring gear and only skinned a little bit in Disentis for Val Strem (which is bootable) and didn't skin at all at Andermatt.
That said, there's just supertankers full of awesome skins all around to get the virgin d33pn3ss.
Fat skis, however, are really useful for dealing with the ungroimed.
These are sagacious bone moes.
I went there with the expectation to skin more and ended up that I didn’t at all. There were opportunities and if I go again I’ll make it more of a priority.
But you can get about all you can handle from this bus bucket

And it’s like $45 fuking US a day. Mind blowing!
ive got a bunch of airmiles built up burning a hole....wanna check out japow options, cant do both in one season, leaning toward eurp, cause i dont like flying ovr the ocean
plus im liking that cable car ^and a tub of skins is hard to beat
So maybe Pro Riders with trekkers aren't such a dumb idea!
It looks so good, and I wish I could make it.
P18 with cast. Or just run p18, there’s an unbelievable amount of skiing with no skinning required. Maybe bring a boot like the Lange XT that is beefy but can tourish so walking is less annoying. Expect to walk in your ski boots ALOT.
I am trying to convince my best friend that we need to do this. I know we couldn't keep up with guys, but it sounds like it would be a lot of fun. As much as I enjoy JH, a change of scenery would be nice too. We would probably provide a significant amount of material for mocking our endless gaperness...
Last year we had all sorts of skiers and I think all had the same amount of fun... trust me[emoji6]

Don't worry about not keeping up. Fact is, there are some really exceptional skiers on this forum. But lots of variation in how hard various people want to go all day. If you can ski most of Jackson's tram with some confidence, you'll have a great time.
I don't see it worth it just to cruise groomers, but I could be wrong on that front to. Afterall, the food, drink, and scenery are $$$$.
