Killington is also opening on friday. Same shit as passholders only.

Mammoth in 3 weeks! My last opening weekend there I was skiing icey off piste steeps, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Their opening is very impressive, I hope they got it going on for this November

Update:
Rose is opening their wrod tomorrow now.
So Friday & Saturday for passholders.
Live music Saturday in the bar.
Dunno if closed Sunday, or selling lift tix.

Mammoth occasionally delivers in November. I’ve skied great conditions at Kirkwood in October. Once with lifts when they were still a rad company and once skinning cause Vail said it was not deep enough (we were bucking ten footers and landing in fluff). Sure, winter can come early. But it starts at the end of December. That is still months away.
Surf is rocking tho.
And to those whining about it for passholders only, of course Rose is going to restrict this to passholders. Otherwise every yahoo in tahoe and the Bay Area would be up there clogging it up. If you want to ski, buy a pass. So what you want to go. They don’t want you there.
Eh, I’ve been surfing pretty much every day, and I’m not complaining that it’s passholders only. Just saying I haven’t skied since June, haven’t been to the Sierra since July and would’ve enjoyed a dumb ski day. I’m glad rose is doing it, god knows vail never would.
How dare any of you get excited for skiing ...

For anyone going to the workshop tomorrow
This thread is definitely jinxed. The first lift of the season opened in Tahoe yesterday and nobody is sharing the stoke? Sure it was just The Wizard at Mount Rose serving basically one green run...but there were several mags there and some big nameless stars. Just being back on skis after a 5 month break made it worthwhile...and that it was 1.5 miles from work. Will be back after work today... Attachment 251709
So did they sell a lot more season passes? Limiting it to passholders was a brilliant move.
Think it's more about not having enough peeps to staff everything yet.
Billed as a Passholders Perk.

As far as opening days with no natural snow, this was the best one I've ever been to: minimal and mellow crowd, Rendezvous Rye in the parking lot, no edge/base damage - what's not to like?
Beats the crap out of the comparable Boreal openers I've been to.
Oh the gnar!

Few peeps out.
Mellow "spring" day.

Good times again today at Rose...hardly anyone there for the afternoon session. Saw Turx and Cinders making the best of it. This time of year, it works out great that Rose is 1.5 miles from work. Comparing the lines at A-Basin yesterday, and what I have seen at Boreal...this was just good fun.

Assuming you meant Boreal in year's past...I drove by it today on my way down to the Bay Area and it is bare. 5 disconnected and very thin looking patches, none of which appeared even remotely skiable by even modest standards (and you know that I have skied some stuff over the years that one would be hard-pressed to deem "skiable").
:)
Any word on continued opening at rose? I am in Colorado so missed the "freshness".
Next weekend is packed with movie goodness:
Jones' Ode to Muir opens at Art Haus Friday
Blizzard of Aaaaahs at Truckee Community Arts Center Saturday
Dawn Wall opens at Art Haus Sunday. Very inspiring story from what I hear.
I’m just hoping we get a real storm by Thanksgiving. Forecast is not promising. This reverse jinx of a thread doesn’t seem to be working.
Announced opening next weekend for public.
Assuming regular hours thereafter.
Dunno how long wrod will hang without natural refresh tho.
Hoped they'd be able to blow a trail down from Lakeview, but the few 3patches up there looked small and ragged.
You can see there is a groomer trail up at the top.
Relatively mild in the day, so only blowing snow at night, I guess.
Hope the angle of the sun, and reducing daylight hours, is enough to keep things cool.Attachment 251913

Figured this was worth posting since there's a fellow maggette included: http://tahoequarterly.com/ski-ride-2...f-the-mountain
Storm about 10 days out, fingers crossed for lower temps as it moves closer.
it's been 10 days out since the beginning of the month it seems. and this afternoon's forecast shows a later, weaker version of this morning's version of the storm.
and low probability :(
I guess the good news is I don't live/ski in the PNW...
