Photo TR: The Week of the Storm: Day 3
This IS the week of the season. It's been snowing almost non-stop since Saturday night and isn't predicted to stop until late Friday night. Some spots in northern Colorado are already reporting over 45" of new snow since Saturday, with another 2'+ by the time it's all said and done. Temps have been hovering in the middle teens since the storm started, making for some of the driest and lightest cold smoke we've seen all season long.
The stoke has been rising throughout the entire state in anticipation of the Big Storm. I've been getting calls from old friends who usually only call when it's absolutely epic.
Me: "Hey, it's great to hear from ya, where are you?"
Friend: "Neck deep in cotton candy-like blower...."
Me: "Great! Looks like I picked the wrong week to work..."
Friend: "Our skin track was thigh-waist deep this morning. I've never seen anything like it...."
Me: [insert jealous voice] "That's great, that's really great....Good for you...Work has been absolutely killer lately. Prolly not quite as fun as trench town, but pretty close"
Friend: "Hey, sorry to cut this call short, but we gotta get an early start today because we're pretty sure our skin track from yesterday is filled in and we're gonna have to put in some extra work today to reach the goods. Have a fun day at work! We'll send you some pics.
[Phone clicks]
Me: " "
45 seconds later I send an email to my boss telling her I'll be out of the office for some personal reasons the next day....
I haven't been to Berthoud since early November, so it was fun to check out the area and see how everything has filled in over the season. Met some new maggots as well as some old faces, making a solid and fun crew. It was still snowing lightly as we drove up the pass. By sunrise the clouds had parted a bit, making for a beautiful start to the morning:

Little did we know hikeforturns was further up the shoulder snapping some pics as well. I figured it was a maggot. The next lap we connected and cranked out a few laps together.
