I went out last night to Wild Mt., and it must have been Statewide Gaper Night - and I didn't get the notification. I've never spent so much time sitting on a chair that wasn't moving...it was truly remarkable! Also, I think they forgot to give me the memo that they no longer gave a shit if anyone was masked up. Boy - did I feel dumb to be in the 10% of people there that actually cared! (/sarcasm off)
Can't wait to get out west. Red Lodge is showing snow all week! Hopefully the REALLY BIG will be getting the same.
Good time at Christie Mountain.

Doesn’t even look like anyone was there...
Tyrol Basin yesterday. Just missed skuff. Appreciate the offer for the hookup mang. As many times as we have crossed paths and still haven't met. Crazy. Next time!
Stupid warm for race day but the north facing race hills held up really well on Saturday. My girl kicked some ass...still not enough to win, but I think we are just missing reps so we glide the flats better and polish some fundamentals. Put her on something steep and in true TRG grom fashion she rages. Still good enough for a season best 3rd for the U12 morning races. She's U12 next year as well, so there is still hope for a U12 win.
We blew the joint to go pick up our new border collie puppy last night - girls don't race on Sunday this year because of the covids.
We signed up for the Sundown race next weekend but I think we'll skip that covid junkshow and go freeski some surfy slush at Chestnut instead.

Congrats to your daughter ugly$! Not easy conditions with the slushy snow.
Plus, had the missus out for the first time this year...

She's digging the 172 Mera
Nice skuff!
Thanks for the warm fuzzies guys. I love it when the girl skis like she loves skiing as much as I do. Usually she kicks ass when she does. She's a girl though so she isn't always all in depending on what minute it is.
This damned dog is taking up my ski waxing time. Need to prepare for slushies this weekend but redirecting him from chewing the house apart is full time.

Our season is fucked now.
50 degrees for days, now an entire day of 45* and pouring rain.
Ski season started in late January and ends in early March.
I grew up in this town skiing from November to April, the 2 ft storms that used to come at 30 degrees are now days and days of pouring rain at 35.
I love skiing, but skiing is dying here and breaks my heart.
Really, just...the world is dying and this is just the part of it I care about the most. But it’s all dying.
Yep. Just so depressing. 70 ish here today and yesterday. Skiing is over down this far.
People around here act like this is all so awesome. Clearly unable to see the big picture.
We had a huge snowpack and it just evaporated. And now my lawn is even drying out. Thunderstorms on the horizon. Scary.
my Condolences, i-as ...
I remember those storms in the 1990s -
things are different, that is for-sure...
I came to thank those of you who have contributed to this thread this season -
I have been out of the region for most of the Winter, and
this thread has been my connection --
I understand and I share your sorrow for the end of the season - and
I will quickly shift my focus to those February days at Bohemia , and
the pic.tures of the boys at Cascade at -15F ! !!
with seventy inches of snowfall in a region that historically has had 200inch seasons, it is hard to know what lies ahead
( and yet in 2013, the western U.p. had almost 100inches of snowfall After April first - )
so., Thank you - I appreciate the contributions to this thread ( Harry, ugly, axe, i-as - the list goes on... ) - Thank you...

The park and a couple of runs at Tyrol have enough snow on them to ski without thinking about dodging dirt. Unless I get some major park motivation, I'm pretty much finished skiing at Tyrol for this season.

cave? or smokeshack? or mine enterance (?)
I would respectfully offer this is most likely an artifact of Time and erosion...
I believe Christie's trails were cut More than sixty years ago -
I skied Christie More than Forty years ago, and saw several spots like this in the bluff where rock had broken away
( most of these spots are not very deep - two feet, maybe thirty inches
( there is little context of size, but I remember these spots as being thirty inches, Maybe three feet tall; and maybe two feet across... )
(( a geologist could give you a better assessment than me ))
in March of 1978, several of these spots were Occupied by a porcupine ! !!
mining in northern Wisconsin was further north in the pick-an-shovel days, until the Flambeau Mine was opened at Ladysmith in the mid-1990s...
Thanks ! for the memories ! ! skiJ
Christie Mountain is going to try to open this weekend. We got a couple inches today so it might happen.
Axe: you wanna come over ?
I only have the 1st dose of Faucci Juice in me, so I still mask up, ride lift solo, and avoid the day lodge. But socially distanced beers in the parking lot are always fun.
The next weekend I will be out at the Really Big Resort getting my 2nd shot, plus I doubt Christie will be able to stay open.
It’s about 2 hours from the Twin Cities.
IAS & Muskynon, you guys are invited too, but I think it’s around 4-5 hours for you guys. Google maps = Bruce WI.

Yeah, I will be back April 3rd, but I’m pretty sure skiing around here will be over by then. Let’s get together though, Taylor Falls is halfway between us.
