He was like the Roy Orbison of New Wave...or perhaps the Joey Ramone of New Wave?
Now I am curious to delve into his solo work...
Really, the prettiest girl ever. Lucky guy.

Not to boast, but, I used to work for SI as a pre press technician and photo retoucher. She needed zero work. None of them needed much at all, but, she was perfect.
RIP Rick...
The cars were part of my regular rotation for a long time.
We used to call that "tight", back in the day.
Like in this UK vid, a gig for obscure BBC show.

They were one of those bands that seems to get *big* real quick.
Would've loved to see them early on.

Huge part of my youth. Loved that band.
Bummer
Eddie Money's first album was '77, the Cars was '78- so maybe someone with a '79 debut (Gary Newman? Robert Smith? Joe Jackson? I hope not but he does smoke.) Oh and this is definitely morbid.
But back to Ric- I love those first two albums too. I was surprised to hear he was 75, I would have guessed younger but I guess he & Orr had some more traditional rock bands first that didn't go anywhere.
Saw this yesterday in a store window- a St. Iggy candle.

Haha
It's going to be a constant stream of rock deaths for a decade.

Lived in Boston for 10 years in the 80s. Used to see him walking down Newbury St often, all in black with shades and a head taller than most. I think he had both an apartment and studio there.

I vividly remember my first exposure to The Cars. My roommate and I were in college, sitting at home when another of our friends (we were all buddies since grade school) came over... "You guys have got to listen to this album! It's the best thing I've ever heard, it'll change music for you for life!". He was totally over the top for them. So, we listened to the album and, at first, I was kind of...meh...kind of weird. But, I bought it and the more I listened, the more it grew on me. I really became a fan for their first four or five albums but was then married and working so music wasn't that important anymore. But the impact of that first album was huge and that moment our buddy came over is vividly in my memory.
Unfortunately, both of those friends are now gone, one in 1993 from a car wreck, the other in 2011 from colon cancer. I also was shocked when Benjamin Orr died and was again shocked when I saw this about Ric Ocasek. Like others, I had no idea he was 75. In my mind, he was about 30 forever. The circle of life, and death, continues unabated. RIP Ric and thanks for the memories.
Hmmm.
The Wikipedia page on Ric Ocasek states that they were separated in 2017, so, too, does the Paulina Wikipedia page...but "separated" and "divorced" are two separate things, so my bad...
Back on track, this was one of the first Cars tracks I remember hearing in high school ("Shake It Up" was the other one):
Always loved the click track rhythm intro...
After hearing this I went back and delved into The Cars and Candy-O. Never got into Panorama for some reason (i.e. never bought it). Gonna have to track that down...
I am calling bs. Feels so wrong.
Might be true of reformed dinosaurs touring a decade after greatness.
But, for an up and coming band??? In 1979, Who haven't made an album yet?
☆Bollox!☆
(Had known a few bands, back in UK, 70s/80s, not a one had click tracks in ears).
But I know nothing.

I don't think it's too hard to play it like the record barring extra instrumentation that the band can't play or play at the same time- I mean cover bands do it all the time. I would rather a band do something different with their songs live- I mean come on let's hear the extended jam that didn't fit on the 3-minute version. I like this song by David Haerle which is about a musician's frustration with fans wanting to hear it just like the record- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVDO-e1hQpw
The Cars and Skiing were the best things my pops ingrained in me before the age of 5.
RIP Ric
