Partial Toenail Removal?

I searched and it looks like it's been awhile since we had a good toenail thread so...
Have had some increasingly worse toenail issues the last few years. Mostly bothersome when skiing but also notice sometimes during other activities (ie climbing, running). More or less normal just hanging around. Don't think they're necc ingrown. Saw a doc last year and he mentioned slicing off a sliver of toenail on one side or the other (but not both) and cauterizing it so it wouldn't grow back. Would/could relieve some of the irriation/tenderness when in boots all day. I balked at it last year but am pondering doing it again. procedure sounds simple enough aside from risk of infection for a bit.
Anyone ever get this done and if so, how'd it work out. I think i'm opposed to a complete toenail removal for now. I'll spare ya'll with pics.

Do the whole nail, have a podiatrist do it permanently. I’ve done both sides. One of the best choices I ever made.

Mrs Jong had that done to one of her toes, and had it coterized not to grow back by a podiatrist. Two years later it grew back anyway with the same problems, but now the deductible is way to high to consider non emergency, absolute necessity shit. Ain't 'Murika Great??

i had this done when i was 13. I am not 50. Never had a toe nail issue again. Get it done there is no downside.

Update....
got em done about 2 weeks ago. just a sliver on the inside of ea big toe. pretty easy/painless procedure aside from the novicane injections. did a short hike a week after and skied about 2 weeks later. so far so good but won't truly know until I cram into touring boots for multiple days on end. cautiously optimistic though.

Because i go to college and i have to walk from building to building and go up and downstairs.
How long would it take to recover and get back to normal?
I have an ingrown toenail on my left foot thumb (right side)

I feel like I was fully good to go in like 6 weeks or so.
The recovery period wasn’t really like disability, just not jamming it into ski boots or hiking downhill with weight...etc.

Nail is gone. Nail under it is gone. Can of dogfood from countertop beginning of December. Dr says I wont be able to ski this weekend that mofo didnt see me shove this in a ski boot day after the can fell

Still a lil tender

Edit to add-Mine isn't a permanent removal. I lose a bigtoenail (or two) almost every season. This was the worst one yet with ingrown, abscess and infection. Another one of these I will go with the "Phenol" option and not have that fucker come back.
