Have you thought about Portland or Bend for the trip? They've been getting tons of snow compared to up here. And their beer scene is unreal.

Def no good beer in B'ham.
39F & raining when I drove thru North Bend this evening but the precip hasn't really made it up the pass yet. Contemplating earning a hole or two on the golf course in the morning before heading down for a holiday affair in town. Seriously considering visiting the Northern Dead End on Sunday
So if I drive up Glacier Creek Rd, hike up Heliotrope, then ski, is the base where my truck is parked?
Base = the settled snow under the overnight (or recent if it's snowing) snowfall, aka "snow base".
But I agree. There's a fine line between optimistic and BS.
Cmon man, we're talking about a commercial ski area here. Base is and has always been the bottom of the hill. They can fudge a bit where they choose to measure, bu it should be consistent as to elevation. If they want to pick the bottom of the best current run, then they should say so. You guys sure give them a lot of leeway. I personally couldn't give a fuck, as I rely on the telemetry and I don't ride lifts anymore, but it sure seems like they are baiting people into a false expectation about the quality of conditions.
That's a lot of words for not giving a fuck.
You're right, they are baiting people into a false expectation about the quality of conditions. It's a time honored tradition.
Jackson Hole, Whistler, and numerous other big resorts use a point on the mountain that's thousands of feet higher than the base. Even Baker doesn't report from White Salmon.
As you said, telemetry is fact, and report is fiction.
Silver is skiing soooo good. Sorry no action shots.

I didn’t mean to imply that there’s anything wrong w/ riding lifts. Just did it too long and got burned out on it. Just thought it was crazy that there was such a discrepancy between the report and the telemetry. On further consideration could be that they are measuring where they have been making snow.
Donated some ptex today at Mt Dweebus. First couple of runs of GV were fun. Under REX was okay. Forest Queen and other runs were of the WROD quality. Never skied Crystal with such low tide conditions before. Pray for more snow. We need it.
And the lots are full.
The new normal.
Thanks Ikon.
I'll be hitting Crystal for the first time tomorrow. I'll probably be content with the mediocre to poor conditions atleast for a day.

With a meager amount of snow, two hazards to watch for. Underlying rocks & other surprises and "whizzies". You know them when they blast by you three feet away going fast enough to dis-embowel you if they hit ya.
F-heads with no concept. Bring appropriate ski's and leave P-tex willingly.
Object of the first pic: stuck shuttle truck with a load of passengers, spinning all 6 wheels for a solid minute or two at the new C-lot pickup spot, then spinning again but in a melodious 2-part diesel harmony as the white work truck skittered and clawed across the boulevard against the tow strap.
Shuttle didn't budge. Passengers got off and walked. White truck pulled it onto the boulevard, then unhooked and drove off while the dually remained stuck in the middle of the road, spinning again and slowly jack-knifing its two empty trailers as the driver tried to find traction but just went downhill.
The white truck returned and pulled the empty shuttle right past the group of ex-passengers, all the way up to the ticket window.
Sounds like everybody’s favorite ski resort will open tomorrow. That’s right...Summit West!
