Yosemite Virgin
.
im ready to make campground reservations for a week late june.
looking at upper/lower/north pines. right in the middle of the shit.
would an outlying campground like hodgdon/crane flats be a better choice?
im here to climb ....
not sure i want to deal with Camp 4 first come/first serve,
on the other hand, i dont really know what to expect.
thoughts?

Camp 4 should be experienced but not sure it’s the most restful spot especially if you’re getting up early and really getting after it. Ymmv.

Hodgdon and Crane would be good choices if you're hitting both Tuolumne and the Valley. Tuolumne may not open until July at this rate though.
If you're planning on hitting Valley stuff only or mostly, then one of the Pines is a solid choice.
Been years since I've been in C4. It's a scene. You'll share a site. Can be fun. Depends on what you're looking for. Harder to get a site in June too.

If you're just climbing in the Valley go with Pines or Camp 4. Pines will be quieter and nicer, Camp 4 for meeting people, the experience, and some partying. Bring bikes with you and just cruise around everywhere or take the bus. You won't have to touch your car the entire time there unless you're going out to lower canyon crags.
The outer campsites will give you better access to the Meadows but it'll probably still be snowy up there. Then you'll spend every day in traffic driving in and out of the Valley. Not worth it.

woke up early to jump on the reservations this AM
all the Pines CGs filled up in less than 15 minutes
holy shit!
i was unable to reserve anything
so, do i wait for march 15 and try again?
cruise the res. website looking for cancellations?
is TicketMaster using their supercomputers to
reserve all the campsites in nanoseconds?
