Don't do that on a powder day though. Take the train and get up the gemsstock early or you'll miss the warm up bowl runs and havevto get to the more interesting runs without warm up..Quote:

Not entitely true. They bomb the "vorgipfelcouloir" in andermatt ( since We've been talking about it) because they don't want it to unload on the groomer, but no they never bomb anything to make freeriders happy.Quote:

They bomb the itineraries in Verbier. They fence them off until they have been secured and you can often see the bombholes. But in theory only 20m each side of the orange markers is secured. In the rest of the off piste terrain only the slopes threatening pistes or infrastructure are secured - mainly using Gazex machines

First days as from him you can get a lay of the land?
I would say it depends on how good you ski - do you need a day to get back into skiing or are you good for sketchy stuff right of the gates? I ski in Andermatt for the last 20 years and I prefer having one day to myself to get into steep skiing mode again and getting acclimatized. The Gemsstock offers plenty of terrain to be accessed just by yourself for the first day.Quote:

Meribel was pretty sweet today. The cold is keeping the snow soft, so even where it's tracked, it's still soft. Best part though is that everyone only seems to ski groomers here so the good stuff isn't even really tracked!

Vetured out a decent amount did some laps where we totally left the resort even though we got to the lines straight from a lift and right back to a lift. Didn't even pull skins out of the bag once even though we had them. It was amazing what you could do from lift to lift. At least to a North American it was... Also did lots of cool lines in the resort too that weren't necessarily to obvious. Highlight of the lines there for me though was probably Banane couloir, it's pretty obvious from the chair.
