Euro Grumble 2025 - A Mag Shindig 3/9 - 3/16

I am just waiting for the time that the only way to get my carry-on to fit is to wear my boots onto the plane.

Probably will put my helmet on my head when pack goes in measured carry on and pass through gate wearing it. At least I will feel safe.

Is Moevenpick still a good choice for an overnight hotel in Zurich before our mid morning flight out? Any other go to airport hotels? I have a feeling it doesn't matter too much.

A lot of threads and Buster talking points, PM's, etc to reread and peruse to find all the nuggets.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Zurich Airport, it was cheap, clean, and had a shuttle to and from the airport.

I kinda slept on 3 chairs pushed together outside the closed coffee shop in the airport until Anwar Sadat came over and had to clean the area LOUDLY.

Also, leave yourself some time after you check in to take the train down to Zurich's "Old Town" area and hang out in the afternoon/evening.

I’d probably recommend the Holiday Inn Express over the Egyptian Magician. It was a super studio like room that I’d never stayed in, but pretty cool, nice window overlooking the road below. Which was a road that featured a McDonalds! Get yourself one of those Cheeseburger Royales!

The departure is my weak link. Twice now I've arrived at the airport in Zurich around 9-10pm and just crashed if possible and was up for a 6am flight. It's not comfy.

Maybe next time i'll do the hotel and some city time. First time, during covid, most hotels were not offering shuttles so I just toughed it out. NBD.

If i were to spend the previous week in Morzine at a friends place, what would the logistic of driving vs public transport be like.

I think it's about 30km from Morzine to Cluses trains station, so you'd have to bus or uber that for public transportation. From there you can train to Geneva where you'd likely change trains to go around Lac Leman (there's a castle right on the water at Lausanne the train goes right by) through Martigny, then Visp and Brig, through the tunnel to Andermatt and over the OberalpPass to Rueras (stop by request). It's a spectacular ride and from Visp on it's the same route as the Matterhorn Gotthardbahn sightseeing train. Go during the day, it's 7-8+ hours.

With gas being expensive, tolls, parking fees (except at MountainLodge, it's free), I almost always opt for the train, The trains have ski racks and are just the way to go.
