I'm old enough to remember when a pro sports team in Las Vegas would never be allowed because it was too close to the mobsters and casinos and the fear of corruption.
Now sports is saturated with gambling. But it will probably be NCAA basketball that has the first huge game fixing or point shaving scandal.
Although I know it is now legal, it still seems to shock me every time I notice sports gambling commercials/sponsorship during MLB last year.
I don't know anything about it, but with sports betting how does "the house" guarantee to always win? Seems like with the anything can happen it would not be as lucrative as casino and lotto. But maybe scale is so large?
Figured I’d bump this thread…NCAA baseball gambling scandal.
My buddy’s kid “is/was” a U of Cincinnati baseball recruit….he verbally committed early as a sophomore from CB East in Doylestown, PA. He’s now a 6’4 205lb. stud just finishing up his junior year.
Over the past few weeks, with a scandal looming….he visited Kentucky and started talking with some other SEC and ACC schools just in case something bad happened at UC.
Today he learned the UC head coach resigned….so he is rescinding his verbal commitment and is back in the open market. Will be interesting to see where he ends up….after thinking UC was the place he really wanted to be…..he really liked the coaching staff (now fired/resigned)
Weird….would of never thought Cincinnati would be involved in a NCAA baseball gambling scandal. Gotta be surreal for my buddy and his kid.

Sports betting is as old as organized sports. Maybe not before the ancient Greeks but at least that far back.
Sure...but...its just way easier now if you have a cell phone or live outside of Vegas, AC, etc. Used to have to find a bookie. I know a guy who bets on cricket games online sometimes. He's got a problem.
Mass media saturation is a bit different than in olden times but I guess we'd have to ask the Old Goat for clarification.
