Well YMMV, but I skied the 202 L138 a fair amount and found it superior to the Protest on groomers and firm. Especially if you can find an older Rocker 1 or Rocker 2 version.

My wife won't ride anything but her Hoji's, That with a touring binding is tough to beat for every day.
1925g listed here; seems about right - https://www.blue-tomato.com/en-GB/pr...arid=304371367
Elan Ripstick 116 in a 177cm?
How about 175 cm GPO's in a +10 to get to 121 mm waist width.....
custom praxis (to get spec waist +10 is pricey).
Nocta above seems like a readily available candidate to demo
Because protests
I would take something 110-120 wide with early rise that still does ok on groomers
Agree completely. If you're riding the lifts, groomer performance is nearly as important as pow from my limited experience in Japan. A few years ago Mrs. Swim brought Nordica La Nina 169s and they were perfect. Next trip it's gonna be DPS Yvette 168s.
As much as I love Protests, don't think that'd be the right choice unless you're touring the whole time

GF skied the VJJ 175 on our Japan trips and loved them. The only thing she didn’t like is they started to feel heavy as the day went on. Just picked up the new UL version. 1600g ea for the 175.
BG 116 tour would be a solid option. The wife skied her Jessie 108’s with shifts last year and that was perfect given the low tide conditions as we did end up having a lot of 4-8” days of higher density snow.
