Nope, been renting in The Rochester/Syracuse area since fall of 2004, 5 apartments total. Only lost money once, because 2 of 4 roomates decided they would rather just loose their portion of the deposit then help clean. Buddy and I cleaned what we could, then billed them the rest.


After sleeping on it the former landlady sucks, $150 sucks right now because I drained the accounts during the move but won;t notice a small amount by December. I've submitted all my reports to relocation, and assuming that I have no issues there i am done dealing with the old bitch.

Never lived in NYC. This apartment was in Marcellus, just outside of Syracuse...

Apparently this even applies to New Yorkers. The state is a lot bigger than Manhattan.

Pretty sure the $900 security deposit was pretty much a dead giveaway.
Can you even get a place in the Bronx for $925 a month?

My bad- when people say New York I assume New York. For the record, it also annoys me when people refer to places like Rye, NY as "upstate"...

It annoys me when people call Buffalo or Rochester, upstate. The Southern Tier could be it's own state. Pen-Ohi- York- A- Tucky, or something like that. Or maybe we'll just call it the Canadian Riviera. Yeah, I like that better.

Send her a letter. If your lease has language that the landlord has the right to collect attorney fees, it grants you reciprocal rights according to the Tenants Rights. I'd point that out (if it exists).

I don't even see a place in the tenants rights where it says a landlord is able to charge a lease cancellation fee. I'd also point this out and say if I don't get my $150 back I'll go for the $150 and the $950.

But right on target. Number one....she doesn't sound like a bad landlord and seems like one with whom you had a decent, amicable relationship with. Why squander any Karma over such trivialities? Karma doesn't grow on trees, you know. (But if you listen to the Bible-thumpers, knowledge apparently does!)
