Tebow time - Wow!

I just don't get why his "Thanks-man-up-stairs" is so much worse than any other player/personality who spills it out at every good opportunity, regardless of whether they actually believe in any supreme being or not. That said, I've never watched a Tebow related sporting event, just watched a bunch of Denver fans, espn announcers, and TGR armchair quarterbacks shit all over him while he apparently consistently (if dramatically) wins. He might prove to suck, but why persecute this guy over his schtick over say, Flava Flav and wearing clocks?

Every track meet I competed in during high school most people bowed and prayed. I didn't but I've never been to church once but know that most sporting events are filled with Jeebus talk. I find it no worse than any of that or what his teammate B-Dawk does and he's just as vocal about God.

Haters gonna hate. It's not pretty and any football fan knows that unless he improves his passing it won't work but he's winning games. Can't win the SB? No one said he could but if the haters keep it up it keeps doling out the lulz.

Bob Costas had an interesting commentary on Tebow during halftime of the Sunday night game.

If you hate the obsessive coverage, see the Hate ESPN thread. If you hate his religion, turn off the sound. He doesn't believe God actually puts his hands in the middle of his games to affect anything. He just thanks him that he has the opportunity to be in his position.

If you hate his style of play, you really must be a sad piece of shit. It's interesting to see someone so unconventional pull out wins in unpredictable, if ugly fashion.

Me, I could care less because I don't get my panties in a twist over other people's faith (or rabid belief in anything else that they feel they have to preclude each statement with). I also am not such a tightass that it angers me to see ugly football win games. That is, unless he's owned by my fantasy football opponent.

On the whole this entire obsession with him reminds me why I can't listen to sports radio much anymore.

I'm not sure why people root against him... would you rather have your kids watching a guy like Michael Vick, Leonard Little, or any of the other thugs who populate the professional sports leagues? This is a kid that's fighting against the probability of failure, and he's getting shit done with less than perfect ability. Sure, he throws out a "I'd like to thank Jesus Christ" every once in a while, but that's not as bad as what the other idiots say that play pro sports these days.

I'm about as far from religious as it gets, but I don't mind what he has to say. He works hard, he plays hard, he's respectful and responsible, he makes everyone around him better, and it's clear that his teammates love the guy... so why all the hate? Because he's credited with turning the team around when he's really a sub-par passing NFL QB? Like I told Powtron- success in the NFL isn't purely measured with stats- Tebow makes the whole team better.

bingo, i cannot recall seeing such a poor display of trying to lose as the bears. 3 straight drives at the end of the game without a single passing play... and all 3 and outs (in overtime the qb had a chance to throw and did a fairly good job while playing to win the game... too bad he wasn't given a chance while they were leading). going to a prevent defense after keeping the other team scoreless.

the bears played like a team terrified of making a mistake and losing... rather than playing to win. it was more than two mistakes by a running back that cost the bears the game.

kudos to tebow for taking advantage of the bear's playing like scared bitches. i'm still skeptical of the broncos against a really good team, but they will have their chances to play better teams coming up since they likely will make the playoffs.

Did you watch the game? Did you see the SIX dropped passes by the Broncos WRs? That would turn his "shitty" 3-for-16 into 9-for-16 with a TD plus some... not really as shitting as it would seem. Again, stats don't paint the whole picture.

some of you know nothing of religion. You should go to church sometime just to see or read some books. Tebow (and I'm not a huge fan) doesn't think God helps him win. He has faith and believes strongly in God and is thankful that he has the opportunity to play pro ball and he is thankful that he was able to not be injured, etc.... It has nothing to do with him thinking God cares who wins a football game. He's excited when they win but dude is sincere in his faith. I'm not a huge go to church kinda guy either but I get his whole faith thing. It may or may not be for everyone but don't hate the kid because he believes in God and isn't afraid to tell people. His QB skills are pretty bad at times but he wins....for now. I think it'll catch up to him and teams will adjust but it is kinda fun to watch and I'm not a Bronco fan. The coverage he gets is pretty ridiculous, but TV and sports talk radio are based on ratings and that kid moves the dial from both kooks that love him and those that hate him.

I don't think that I've ever seen or heard Tebow credit "devine intervention" with anything other than giving him or his team the opportunity to succeed. Can anyone post a link to a quote where he's even implied that his god has influenced the outcome of a game?

That said, I can't help but root for this guy.
The guy is a winner, and his is a great role model. I am not a big fan of sports figures as role models, but he would be a good one to have, if you had no other role models in your life.

I cringe every time I here that schtick, but he is far from the only one that pulls that one out every time he is on camera.

I don't think he will be the answer for the Broncos, but he does seem to be getting better every week, in a league that is full of some pretty piss poor QB's these days.

The over/under line on the Broncos for wins this season was 7.5...how many of you took the over? I know I didn't.

Next you missed the part where I, paraphrasing Bob Costas, said that Tebow doesn't believe that God puts his hand in the games, just that he's thankful to be there and the opportunity he has. He's explained this countless times.

Regardless of his religious views, Tebow's attitude on and off the field is what makes me root for him. He plays football because he truly loves it. He has respect for the game, the coaches and the players. He's a throw-back to the '60's when men played football purely for the sport. The NFL needs a lot more of that and a lot less of the whiney mega-millionaire prima donnas. Tebow's the only reason I'm even watching the NFL again.

I dont really get the hating on Tebow. He sure talks a lot about Jesus, but he seems to walk the walk, unlike a lot of high profile Christians.


If nothing else, it has been fun listening to all the Tebow haters, revise their dire predicitons of immediate failure to predictions of unsustainability and future failure.

here are my thoughts on tebow:

1.) the teams he has beaten aren't very good. (someone already pointed this out)

2.) why do the defensive he's faced put tons of pressure on him all game and then in the last two minutes go to prevent coverage??? dude has like 5-7 seconds to get the ball off against a prevent defense that's giving away the 5-10 yard passes to PREVENT the deeper threats. pretty horrible coaching, that shit won't happen against belichek.

3.) none of the teams denver has faced during tebow's reign can put up big numbers. chicago wasn't scoring tons of points with cutler or forte. vikings, raiders, dolphins, bears, jets, chiefs..... i don't think any of those teams are going to the payoffs nor do any of them have offensive threats and QBs capable of running up the score. bears and jets (the best of the bunch) are defensive-orientated teams

4.) If the game is close in the forth quarter, watch out. it's tebow time baby! fun to watch

5.) i might not get down with what tebowing represents and i dislike the "shove it in your face i got a boner for christ" thing all the time, but tebowing is pretty fun to do.

6.) i keep trying to get on the bronco bandwagon (my gf is a CO native), but i just can't..... I have a strong dislike for elway and damn donkey fans are annoying. that said, i've been rooting for tebow because keeping him at qb is delaying getting an actual quarterback or developing brady quinn (who's probably gone after this season anyways)

Sanchez going off on his players every damn game, see him yesterday yelling because an audible wasn't heard correctly. Guy is a fricken jerk to his players-that everybody should be calling out. Brady going off on his coach insane like. Rodgers being a smug egotistical prick. Tony Romo just sucking. Philip Rivers being a bitch. Eli with that whiner face he gets-then the receiver core.

He plays like a linebacker. Out to win, smack heads and have a good time, has more in common with a Jared Allen and Urlacher than other QB's. Who wouldn't want him on their team, building guys up, showing them they can do it and holding them up when they don't. Why wouldn't you want that person to succeed on your team?
