anybody tried the k2 thraxis snowboard boot

i had the burton ruler for two years and they destroyed my feet. rei swapped them out for some salomon dialogue wide which felt like heaven until some kind of leak developed. that said, they were also softer than i'd like.

i mentioned in another thread about what boot might be a good one if i'm thinking about splitboarding in the near future and a couple of people mentioned the malamute. i have high arches, high instep and bony ankles, which seem to increase in pain the stiffer the boot. i spend almost zero time in the park.

i stayed away from the boa lacing system when i got my last pair but after trying them on -- especially the one with the heal cinch -- can't remember at the moment, i tried on a lot of boots trying to keep tract of a 2 year old. now i hate my sectional lacing system on the dialogue and i haven't even used a boa.

anyway, i'm looking for something stiffer than a 6/10 (the driver x also destroyed my feet -- i have never put on a pair of burton boots that were comfortable to me) but 8-ish/10 would be nice, wide, the double boa sectional lacing. the guy at the store was pushing k2s and salomons.

i'm going to have to go back and do it all over again without the 2 year old.

wot part of your feet are you having trouble with? distroyed?
a boot tech told me that burton are the only foot wear manufacture in the world that has updated the shape of the human foot template they use for construction. I don't know if its true, I'm just repeteing it.
I used burton ruler for many years splitboarding, super soft boot, but backcountry riding doesn't need a stiff boot for me. I now often ride in my kilm adrenaline sled boot, deff not the best snowboard boot but fine for riding OB. I found burtons very comfy but wanted a stiffer boot for big mtn riding that wouldn't cost $500
I've got a pair of 32's as well, I cant remember which model but quite stiff, plenty of room in the toe of the boot and give great control of the board. I have skinny ankles that make boot selection issues.
I like the boa system and have had a pair with it. conveiniant for loosening it off for skinning, then getting it tight for the icy entrance to a chute. I thought the ratchet might break or get caught on something but it was tuff. no one seems to break them either(or am I wrong?)

I just find snowboard boots too wide for sledding, especially my 32's. that and sledding is extremely hard on boots and the snowboard boots get chewed up quikly.
I say buy the K2's and let us know wot u think

if i cinch things down as tight as i like to ride, i have problems with my instep and circulation and putting too much pressure on my arches. i bought some large volume moldable inserts to replace the . i'm probably due to replace the gel straps. lots of boots just trying them on give me trouble on the interior ankle bone that juts out. seems likes the seams of a lot of boots meet right on my ankle bone. if i get a boot that fits the width of my foot, i have too much movement in the ankle.

the burtons didn't destroy my feet as bad as the first pair i had. they were clickers that were size 12 and i wear 10. rode them 30 days of intense pain to get the most out of the spring pass and boots/bindings/board for $80. that taught me the importance of boots. the rulers never felt comfortable from the moment i out them on, but after being in loose boots all spring, i wanted something that would break in after 5 or 6 days and that never felt like it happened. i rode them 40 days without a single day of comfort. too narrow, seam on the ankle that i could not seem to avoid without so much padding in various places it was a pain in the ass. i also had problems on the ball of my rear foot from vibration/poor fit --> compression i don't know. it appears that a bone spur started to grow on the top, inside of the ball of my big toe and 6 hours of riding that killed my feet, it was getting worse. so rei took the rulers back and i bought the dialogue wide and it was night and day.

but they packed out quickly, things got a little loose, and then some kind of water intrusion issue. rei's going to take them back and i have $150 (i bought them on closeout, which i like to do if possible. no problems with last years models) to go toward a new pair, which makes looking at a $400 pair less stupid than it would ordinarily be.

ideally i'll spend maybe $250 total (including refund) and upgrade.

the reason i stayed away from the boa when they first came out was because i was sure either the wire would cut through something or the wire would break at some point or the ratchet would fail.

the guy at the store i think said he couldn't remember anybody bringing one back because the wire cut through anything. some ratchet failure but rare. the only real problem was wires breaking because people on the chair up rest their boards on their boots and the edges were cutting through the wire. he said the ratchet is guaranteed which is great except things are kind of fucked up when it happens and you're hours away from customer service. i guess you could tighten it up winding it up with a board tool or something to finish the day.

I was very sceptical of the boa when it first came out but I'd happily go back there.

I thank the lord I can wear almost anyfoot wear with out issue. clip in road cycling shoes can be issues for other people.
it just suck to play such an expensive sport and not know if something is going to work in the backcountry, coz in the shop it looks like the shizzle, then we drop several hundred $$$ to find it shit the bed on a mtn top ...

i just got the 12 closeout of the malamute in the mail today for basically half price. they are super comfy. no boa, but i can live without if they are comfortable for the open to close shift.

In the BC I have my laces tightish around the foot and loose ish around the leg and I'm good all day.

back in the day when I rode inbound, tight was the go, but fark it hurt from the tounge seams right on the vein that runs up the front of the shin.

The best boots to date that I've used splitboarding were the predecessors to the Vans Cirro, flex 8/10, great freeriding boot. I did eventually break the BOA. Vans CS was pretty awesome, they sent out a new cable for free (which incidentally got lost because lots of shit gets lost coming to my house, stupid road naming system). I called them back and they were super apologetic and over-nighted a new cable for Saturday delivery! That alone pretty much sold me on Vans. The cable is easy to replace yourself if you have two opposable thumbs and are even a little bit mechanically inclined.
