I've already got ton of J-5, Blackalicious, 2 skinny js, etc.

What are you listening to that you just have to turn up every time it comes on? All suggestions welcome infact, as long as it gets you pumped.

I assume that you are already in tune with Swollen Members?

Anyhoo, Swollen. Black Eye Peas, Cypress Hill is always fun, IAM (thanks dude_le) I may not know what they are saying all the time, but damn those dudes can flow.

edit - and of course Talib Kweli and Mos Def or the combination of both, which would be Blackstar.

Another big vote for Talib Kweli- if you don't have "Reflection Eternal", run (don't walk) to the local shop and git it.

Just got the new Jedi Mind Tricks also- pretty solid.

i think french applies well to rap, the variety of words with similar meanings makes it real nice and the sounds makes it real flow-y

by iam check out the cd its called

l'école du micro d'argent - silver mike school

its one of their classic, its what got the band recognize. they have a song they do with method man and redman its called

la saga

some of the members of iam have gone on their own check out
akhenatone

some other mellow french rap check out Doc Gynéco. He is a bit more main core but has some really nice beats and lyrics
check out the cd called liaisons dangeureuses cool songs are

dans ma ruche
l'homme qui ne valait pas dix centimes
and
hexagone (great critic on the french culture)

from the t-dot, in english check out a nice rapper called DL ICOGNITO his song that got the most attention called rugged and raw

for some french canadian hip hop check out Sans Pression their new song pas le choix de foncer is pretty sweet...

should keep ya busy....

Atmosphere -- Seven's Travels

Can't recommend this album enough. Straight up hip-hop with no bling-bling. The MC (Slug) is completely relatable and Ant finally got his beats together for this album.

Quannum Records: Lyrics Born or LifeSavas
Rhymesayers Entertainment: Brother Ali or Atmosphere

There is a DVD that came out this fall called The Battle for LA (not RATM related) that is all underground freestyle battlings and it rules. Check out the quicktime previews at apple.com and order it from Best Buy (exclusive distribution).

Aesop Rock, Talib Kewli FOR SURE, and if you are downloading from kazaa there is a Ozo Matli/J5 collaboration called O le le that is soooo good. Pep Love, also of Heirogliphycs(or however the hell you spell it) isn't bad either...

Anything from the lyricist lounge albums is good. Pharoah Monch is great in my opinion.

I like the Beatnuts too.

Second on Anticon; lotta talent there; not quite as easy to listen as more mainstream stuff though. Same thing on Dizzee Rascal. I can't get enough of that "Jus a Rascal" song.

Haven't been able to find much of their stuff but 7L and Esoteric; they're from Boston are cool. They have a song called "be alert" which samples the transformers.

You gotta listen to Capital Punishment, the first Big Pun album if you haven't. Some amazing rhyming in that album.

If you need something in your face; doesn't get much better than M.O.P.

all this talk about rap francais and no mention of MC Solaar?

wtf?!?!?!?!

his debut album, Qui Seme le Vent Recolte le Tempo, is a bona fide classic regarless of genre, language, etc.

in terms of other stuff, i'd suggest you download the free Atmosphere album I posted about recently:

if'n y'all are gonna mention/hype Phaoroah Monch then you NEED to dig up a copy of Organized Konfusion's self-titled LP from 1991. That IS the bom-diggy (I know cuz I just listened to it last week for 2 days straight in Summit County...great foul weather and slope stoke ST).

also, since O.C. debuts on that album, pick up his first joint. it's another burner (ditto for the very first Jeru Tha Damaja album).

crate digging time is upon you young padwan!

yup. Slang Blade is one of my favorite hip-hop cuts. The first time I heard this album was on my way up to Attitrash for a powder day. One of the few times I enjoyed the 'trash. This album (http://www.amazon.com/S-O-N-O-G-R-M-One-Be-Lo/dp/B00078FALE) from One Man Army, which is half of binary, is real good too.

Second the aesop rock, del (3030), can ox, and atmosphere (and his collab 'felt') recommendations. Also check out MF Doom, gangstarr, eric b and rakim, and gza's liquid swords.

Galactic - From the Corner To The Block (Features several artists)

BTW, Dookey 67 is dead on about Organized Konfusion (I bought it in '91 - damn I'm getting old!), but their second album Stress; The Extinction Agenda is just as good, as are both Pharoahe Monch albums. And, speaking of some old school, has anyone checked out the latest Public Enemy album How You Sell Soul To A Soulless People Who Sold Their Sold? Chuck D is still putting it down.
