Do not be deceived by the fact that it's June everyone, there's still plenty of snow out there waiting to be skied!

My buddy Louis and I took off from Golden at 6am, destination: Engelmann. After finding a bridge that might well have been on private property we were able to cross the raging West Fork and start the ascent. It was an initial slog through dense trees but we soon found ourselves skinning up a sliver of snow in a shaded gully.

Half way up this snow covered creek we made the most amazing find- a beacon! And it still worked! I've already got one, so it was decided that Louis could keep it, just as long as nobody else claims it... (if you were the one who lost it, just shoot me a message with details, and I'll get it back to you).

Once we topped out of the newly named "Finders Keepers" couloir it was on-and-off snow the rest of the way to the summit.

The day started as bluebird, but as we topped out things turned colder and darker, and we even got a brief stint of snow.

So we decided to descend, but on the more northerly ridge that held consistent snow until we reached the saddle that led to Point 12,346' (an initial ~900'). From here we were able to skirt back across to the consistent snowfield which we came up on, and skied another long (1,000+ vert) back into the gully where it finally ended in a creek/cliff combo.

The snow was mostly corn, with only a few spots of crust or slop; it was a long and fulfilling day indeed.

Nicely done Dave. Wish I was still skiing...

that little gully reminds me of one of my favoritest lines here in WY. always blows my mind to be surrounded by summertime except for that drifted-in piece of winter. :yourock:
