View Full Version : Kings and Corn 2004 TR

Ok, I'm still weeding through photos, but I figured I should hang something soon so here it be.
Kings and Corn was epic - as I expected it to be. It was definitely a bit different running the show as opposed to coming as a guest. A hell of a lot of work, but damn fun work!
The run of King Salmon in the area was a bumper crop this year and we were able to take the show far beyond the Talachulitna river, dropping into creeks we've always wanted to pork. The camp and the creeks were absolutely crawling with bears. We had to resort to using rubber buck shot riot rounds in camps just to get the damn things attention. All of us had our tents ripped up and we had to chase out the damn bears on a nightly basis. I got at a little bit too close of a conflict with a blackie and had to tag him in the face with a full blown louieville wind up with a three foot garden spade.
The weather was in the mid-eighties and we had to drill further back into the Alaska Range than ever before just to get at the good snow. The result was a ton of first descents and really big chutes and couloirs.
As always, good times, good food, good liquor and a lot of very out of hand partying were had by all.

Not necessarily -- Alaska as a whole has just had an uncharacteristcally hot summer. Last year we had more than 10 feet of snow in the valleys.

Do you wonder about it though?
It looks like a great time you guys had. My old man's birthday's coming up. He lived/fished all over the western highlands of Scotland all his life and seen the salmon stocks decline something chronic over the years. I'll get him over to you to to sample the goods...

is it just me or does alaska have a really hot summer this year ?
the mountains look pretty bare considering the fact that everything is glacial terrain.......

Its been sooo freaking hot lately, we got about a third of the snow the year before last and there was plenty of coverage in a few places in July that have no snow now, and didn't in June, also the rivers that aren't glacial are sooooo freaking low, salmon can't spawn its terrible the glacial rivers are really really high (you make to conection)
