Check it out: good cause, good food and beer, good people, and good riding.

Ales & Trails Mountain Ride and Barbecue- Saturday June 19, China Camp

A. Rides
The group rides will start at 9:30am. China Camp State Park is the
only
free bike legal singletrack loop in Marin. The trails are buff, and the
climbs moderate. We will have group rides for all levels, from beginner
to
hammerhead. For those who wish to do their own thing, maps will be
available.

B. Food/Drink
The Barbecue, with draft beer provided by Broken Drum Brewery, will
start at
12:30pm. Vegetarian options will be provided.

C. Cost
Both the ride and the food/beer is free of charge for current paid
members
of any of the local mtn. bike advocacy groups listed above (BTCM,
BTCEB,
A4B, NorCAMBA). If your membership is not current, or you are not a
member,
bring cash, check or credit card and join, or renew at the party.
Memberships start at $20. If you join at the $50 level, or above, you
can
bring a guest free of charge. Youth under 14 are free. Note: If you
have
purchased a Tamarancho annual pass you are not a member of any of those
advocacy groups. Money from passes goes to the scouts, not to the
groups
that actually built the trails.

D. Purpose
Mountain biking is a great sport, but it is nothing, if the trails and
fireroads are closed to our use. We need your support to oppose those
who
like to restrict bicycling opportunities in the Bay Area. The
organizations
listed above are responsible for: building and maintaining Tamarancho,
keeping trails open on Mt. Diablo and Joaquin Miller Park, keeping
access to
trails and fireroads on Mt. Tam and Pt. Reyes, and parks in the East
Bay.
Now is your time to help us to continue to help you. Support our work,
and
come to the party. For more information about any of these groups go
to:
www.btceb.org
www.norcamba.org
www.btcmarin.org
www.access4bikes.com

E. Directions
The rides and the party will be at Miwok Meadows in China Camp State
Park in
San Rafael. From 101 Freeway, take the North San Pedro Exit (Civic
Center)
going East. Take it for 3.5 miles and make a right turn, on a dirt
road, at
Miwok Meadows sign. Free parking. For more information about China Camp
State Park, including a map of the trails, go to:
www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=466

F. Woman Riders Encouraged
Woman riders are especially encouraged to come on the group rides and
join
the party.

That sounds really cool - If I'm not lost somewhere in Utah, count me in!!!

hmmm....sounds pretty interesting. I've got something going on that morning, and I'm not sure I'll be ready to ride yet (I'm allowed to start on streets next week), but can I crash the party?

This sounds like fun! However, after reading Kellie's TR on Lassen, I may reserve this weekend for some skiing. I'll know closer to the date.

That sounds like a good time. If I wasn't flying to Alaska that day :D I'd be there.

edit: upon further review my post was a bit caustic. Still no love for the EBRPD though.

everyone is welcome, regardless of if you ride or not that day. come on out and show your support for some of these groups doing good work to keep single track accessable and legal in the bay area. not sure about the east bay group someone here baged on, but the marin group does good work. regardless, it should be a fun day out at China Camp.....hope to see ya'll there.

cool - I should be there around 1 or so.

Freshies - any distinguishing marks/scars/tattoos/piercings/clothing? or do I just need to make an ass of myself and ask for change? :)

didn't make it to this yesterday. My friend bailed at the last minute and I didn't feeling like heading out solo. Would love to hear how it was!

Fun group, but not enough meat for all the hungry people just back from rides. I ate a *lot* of tortilla chips and baked beans.

freshies, I called you but your cell wasn't on. Or maybe you had no signal, I know mine was marginal.

The big loop is a great intro to singletrack for beginning bikers. The climb isn't graded steeply at all, so it's easy, though it takes a long time. The only tough part is on the Peacock trail near the end, which is a little bit bouncy and rutty, but not terribly so.

Good to see some cooperation between the MTBers and the enviros...both of us want more open space, so we need to be fighting the developers and not each other.

hey spats - you and Pu up for a ride this Thursday night at Skeggs? I'm still in pretty poor biking shape, but would love to get back to my old stomping grounds if you all are up for it.
