I left my moutain bike sitting against the garage like a fucking stupid dumbass motherfucking nimrod...running out of shitty words...idiot. Now it's gone! God fucking damnit!!! Replacing it is going to be a serious pain in the ass. Especially since I got a killer deal on it. I loved that damn thing!
Why am I such a stupid asshole?
And to the shithead that took it: FUCK YOU, YOU DIRTY SONOFABITCH!!!!

Been there. Still feelin' the pain two and a half years on. Hope you had insurance. If you don't I recommend jumping in your car with a baseball and hunting down the ugly motherfucker that stole it (assuming it happened just now...)

I had a large/xl Gary Fisher Sugar 2+. Recently upgraded with XT Crank and brand new tires. So fucking bummed right now. I think I slept only 3-4 hours.

so sorry M!!!! Ugh - that just completely sucks. I know you liked that bike.
not sure what you're looking for, but here's an XL on craigslist.... might be other good ones too.

sorry about that - don't beat yourself up though - we've all done it!!
Damn man. I know exactly how you feel. I had my then 3 month old biked stolen out of my apartment like 3 years ago. Still pisses me off. I take it you didn't have insurance? I'll look around and see if I can find a good deal on a decent XL bike.
that sucks, when i was in college I left a newly laced front wheel at the trail head....I was so pissed at myself. karma was on my side at the time and I somehow got it back.

Huge bummer Arty, sorry to hear it.
Homeowners insurance should cover it. If it does, you'll probably get the full value of the bike new, plus the cost of the upgrades.
Hope everything works out.

Thanks for the sentiments, everyone.

As for insurance, I might be alright. We'll see. That said, I'm probably gonna have to find a new bike. Full suspension is a must since I have a destructo back. I'm thinking Kona, Santa Cruz, and Gary Fisher. What else should I be looking at?

I've liked my cannondale Jeckell for 5 years now.
Still works great.
new ones are 5+ inches travel and you can get the lefty (it rocks) or other 2 blade forks
Arty, if you ride like you ski, I'd find somthing in the 5 inch range, at least. And that's cool about the insurance. They should cover the replacement, meaning what it would cost to buy that bike new today (I think).
Some other bikes to consider (if you don't mind spending a bit more) are the Turner 5-spot, the Cove G-spot, Giant AC-1, and as you mentioned the Kona Coiler, SC Heckler.

So, this has become a "What Bike to Buy" thread?
I'd say this is your opportunity to go all out. Turner 5 Spot would be my recommendation...keeping in mind that I regularly have wet dreams about Turner bikes...is that weird?

Only if that wet dream involves the seat tube.

I absolutely love my new bike (Yeti 575):

Light, climbs well and has 5.75" travel. I just saw the gold frame the other day and it's sweet. Wish they had them available when I bought mine.

Sorry to hear about your bike mang. I, as well as pHunk had our rides stolen. As for my experience, it turned out for the better, although, I was without a bike for a month. My parrent´s homeowner insurance policy covered my loss. I actually got full reimbursement for the retail cost of my bike. All I had to do was submit the police report, and a signed copy of the retail cost of my frame and components from a local bikeshop, and within a month they cut me a check for the value of the bike. Hope you can have the same luck as I did. I believe pHunk´s experience was similar to mine.

Nice, thanks Tap
I had the same experience with a set of wheels that were stolen from me. I left them at a parking lot and didn't realize it until the following day. They were covered under the homeowners policy, and I got retail value despite the fact that they came with the bike(Sugar 2 actually). I ended up getting $400 for a set of wheels that weren't worth half that.

Right after I rode with you, too. Damn.
Make sure you report it stolen to the police, and call all the local bike shops and let them know a description/serial #.
Also tell the bike shops to look out for someone bringing in your make of wheel with a broken rear spoke, or for them buying a single black spoke in the appropriate length.
To make this easier, I'd write a short description and send it/drop it off with all the shops.
Make sure to check Ebay over the next few weeks to see if anything turns up. That can easily happen.
Hope insurance helps you out.

arty, that blows man. hope you find it and stomp that f'er.
I just read a thread over on MTBR of a guy that had his Titus stolen only to cross paths with a guy that "stuposidly" bought a $5K titus switchblade for $100 on the trail. You can read the whole story over here (http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=1588)

Definitely let bike shops know. One of the guys we ride with had an AC2 stolen a couple years ago and the idiot who stole it brought it in to the shop where it was originally purchased for repairs. They recognized the mods they had done to the bike, called the guy it was stolen from and then the police.

Thanks everyone for the advice.
First thing this morning I made a flyer with a pic of the bike, details, etc. I'm just waiting on Gary Fisher's Warranty dept for the serial number. Don't be like me, be sure you write this down and keep it in a safe place.
Anyway, I gave one to the sheriff and I'm going to take it to all the bike shops in town.

I was working in a shop years ago when one of the mechanics put a bike in the repair stand. He stepped back and called to one of the other mechanics "Bob, come take a look at this!" Bob takes one look at the bike and removes seatpost . . . . sure enough, his name and numbers are inscribed for all the world to see.
Bob called the police. Then he called the new owner and made up an excuse for him to come down to the shop. It was a lovely reunion for the bike and its true owner. It was the beginning of an equally beautiful relationship between a thief and the law.
Learn from the lessons of others:
Put your name on the seatpost.
I've also seen people put their info on a piece of paper and stuff it into the seatpost.
Take photos of your beloved bike(s).
Write down the serial number and put it in your toy file.
Sorry about your bike Arty.

Thanks! And thanks especially for all the advice. I also just remembered that I have a set of alpha/numeric dies. My next seatpost is getting that treatment.

Also it's $$$. A Heckler would probably be a better bike for me. I'm gonna demo some stuff when I'm down in Pasadena this weekend. I found a store with Turners here in Tahoe and there's lots of other stuff around town too. So many choices. Oh well. I'm kinda resigned to getting a new bike now. It's gonna take me a couple of weeks to decide anyway. If my bike doesn't show up by then, I'll know it's time for a new one.
Thanks again everyone for the well wishes and great suggestions. I've got a lot of homework to do on all these bikes now.

[May be stating the obvious]
Don't get carried away with the hammer and ovalize your seatpost.
Also, be sure to de-burr the edges of your alpha/numeric imprint so as not to score the seat-tube. :)

Yes. I was thinking about this. I knew my ME Machine Shop class would come in handy one day. :D
Perhaps scoring my name in the post would be better: cleaner, more compact, etc.

SC Tazmon # 182.... yeah, it's old, but it kicks ass for an old bike.

What the hell is wrong with people, they can't buy there own gear or just need your bike to support their crack habit. The world is all screwed up, especially people in this country. I am always worried about my rides getting stolen. Yeah like others said, "hopefully you had insurance" and can get a new phatty ride. I do like the 5 spot like others have insisted. And I do have a Sugar 2, but it aint been off the rack in about a year. If you get the insurance mula, spend it on the best bike you can afford, there are all kinds. I just suggest buying good quality parts. I haven't had any bikes stolen but I had a pair of ski's stolen about 10 years ago, I was pissed, but eventually got over it.

Meh...so far. I rode a Gary Fisher Cake yesterday. Not my favorite bike. Admittedly, the frame was a touch too big and the tires sucked serious ass. I ate shit on a bend in a sandy fireroad cause they had no edge grip. I also fell off a narrow section of the singletrack for the same reason. Why do such expensive bikes come with such shitty tires? It's like buying an Armani suit and getting a free pair of $2 Kmart shoes with your purchase.
Honestly though, I won't be getting a Fisher again. I've heard that they've had some durability issues. Don't get me wrong, they're good bikes. Just not great. And I had a lot of little problems with my Sugar, namely with the driveline. Some of it was my shifting, a lot was bad design. Reading the mtbr. com reviews, you'll see a ton of people talking about chain suck. The Cake wasn't much better yesterday. No thanks.
Today I'm going to fondle some Santa Cruzes. When I get back from Mexico I'm going to drool over some Turners. So it'll be a couple of weeks at least before I make a decision. Attempting to surf should take my mind off it in the meantime. :D
