Do Maggots prefer singletrack?

Personally I need an equal mix of both. How about the rest of you?

Shouldn't this be an actual poll?
But defintely, most assuredly singletrack. Or a DH track, or dirtjumps, or a 4x/slalom track. Anything but stunts. If you want to do tricks get a bmx and ride street or park, I did. No need to fill the woods with those ugly things. Plus, you're riding like a $2000 on wooden bridges and along "skinnies." Imho it doesn't get any dumber.
But hey, people gots to have fun.

I prefer technical trails or DH trails, then singletrack. I've never had an opportunity to ride stunts, but I think I spend enough time injured as it is - doesn't seem like a good idea...
stunts are cool IF they are well built. jumps are always cool, but IMO you don't ruin good trails with stunts. stunt building is best done in very downhill specific trails.

I'd agree with that. Who wants to ride on ladders with the seatpost all the way up? Not me...

Here in the flatlands, Stunts give an oppurtunity for us to get a rush and still get in some techinical skills..skinnies etc. Trail riding is still at the top of my list, but every couple weeks, its nice to hit up some ladders and drops.

I'm kinda curious, for those of you that ride "stunts" are they incorporated into normal trails, or are there specific stunt areas where a bunch of stuff has been built that is ridden individually?
for those that think that stunts are stupid, remember that they came about because of a need to bridge environmentally sensitive areas on trails, and then evolved into what you see today. So don't knock them (except for the stupid, rickity ones!)

Ok, I lied. It just occurred to me that they have that big ladder thing with the drop in the middle of it on top of moab rim. Which I have no intention of riding, but it's there...
And I've ridden the teeter-totter thing that they have at the base of the lift in Brian Head.
I wouldn't be opposed to having them on trails if they're built well.

what litmited stunt building we have in my area tends to be more single stunt based. usualy one stunt with a ride around. there is not much effort put into most of the stunts, since they are all built renegade, and are usually torn down. basicaly most of them are pretty "rickity".

I think that stunts/stunt riding has it's place. As White Chocolate already mentioned, they came about due to a need to preserve sensitive sports on the trail. I still see this as a valid reaason to build raised ladder crossings, etc. I also know of two well maintained trails in my area that are specifically dedicated to stunt riding. This is also fine (as long as the land owner has approved - which IS the case with these two trails).
I don't like to see stunts tossed up on regular XC trails for no apparent reason, or without the express consent of the land owner. Doing this is just asking to have the area closed to ALL mountain bikers.
WOW, the view sure is good from the top of this soapbox...

singletrack. By far.
Hmmm, good topic. Singletrack is bitchin in its own right, but does have the tendancy to get boring, akin to only skiing groomers all day.
However, throw in some good banks, a few techy spots, and some jumps and you've got yourself a kick ass trail. As for the stunts, well, I've yet to ride 'em, but really want to.

my definition of singletrack is techy stuff, as its very rare to find a trail where you won't end up threading through rocks and routes while fighting face scratchers here. Theres one trail I love doing simply because the branches constantly bat at you while you fight with off camber rooty singletrack that threatens to pitch you into the river that's one foot away.

I like moderately technical singletrack. As my tech skills get better I'll probably want it more tech, but only so much. Falling on a mountain bike hurts, and unlike Jamie Pierre, I'm a pussy.
I like it hilly, flowy and twisty, with some jumps here and there. A good trail will let you build up some speed and then throw you into some gradual turns and tighten up as you scrub speed.

Like woman I like to try it all. The more you try the better you get.

I've never ridden stunts, but have ridden on walls and benches and stuff. I'd like to give stunts a try.
I've ridden a stunt ditch, though.

Never ridden stunts, but interested in giving them a try.
Generally, I prefer singletrack with significant technical challenges. I'm not a big drop person, but I'm fairly good at picking my way through technical bits.

yeah, I'm more of a singletrack with technical features fan. I've done a couple of baby teetertotters and that's about the extent of my stunting. I, too, tend to fall and get hurt, so XC seems to be about my pace.

I have never riden on a trail with stunts other than some well placed logs to ride over, but never really thought about it while riding. I love technical single track. I figure a tight, steep turn with roots or rocks to screw you up is enough excitement on a bike for me. I do think a teeter totter or small gap jump would be fun though.

Yes, they are usually placed next to where I'm lying on the ground bleeding... Building stunts to have stunts is cool, but they're much better if they're built into some feature on the trail. In general I bike like I ski, I like to go fast and jump off stuff. I'd probably prefer to ride the same stunts over and over rather than the same single track, the reason being that until this year I haven't ridden many stunts, so they're the cool thing to do for now.

Where I ride stunts they have crazy flow for stunts. They have over 800ft of continous ladders now. Everything from little drops to gaps, to 12ft plus drops. It is some of thr craziest stuff i have seen here in the midwest. It is purely stunt with a little downhill run built on part of it. Check out www.teamsally.com and click on the pictures section if you want to see some of this stuff. I have only been there a few times but it is my new mecca. I only wish i could ride it all!

saw that last year and thought "not in a million years"
I agree, i like technical/rocky downhill. singletrack is fine but unless it is fast, not terribly exciting.
i don't have any interest in stunt riding, seems to risky. i have done some really easy teeter totter things in the bay area and they were fun.

They bridges on North Van and such are cool and used to be cool to watch in videos, but building that stuff out of Home Depot lumber in the middle of a dry downhill in Kentucky is just dumb. But hey people do it and try and look like danger and the NS bunch. It's just like the bender drop thing. There were guys with banshees with monster t's riding around on single track looking for 4 ft drops to flat talking about finding some big drops to do because they had a seriously kick ass bike yo! Those guys don't even ride anymore.
But I guess if it makes you happy, let it rip.
