Apres Rad: Big Bear Mountain Resort

Story by Teton Gravity Research

Judging by the fact that Big Bear Mountain Resort is just 100 miles from downtown LA, it’s no surprise that the locals know how to have a good time. Getting stylish in the park all day long is just part of the fun - the party keeps going at huge selection of après hangouts around the mountain’s base once the lifts stop turning.

Getting stylish in the park all day long is just part of the fun.

We caught up with a crew of local snowboarders to hear their take on the perfect day at Big Bear, and found out some of the best local spots to keep the party going all night long.

Getting stylish in the park is step one, step two is keeping the party going all night long. TGR photo.

Laybacks Bar:

When it comes time to chill after a day sessioning the rails and jumps at Bear Mountain’s terrain parks, there’s no better place to hang out than the newly renovated Laybacks Bar located at the west end of the recently expanded 26,000 square-foot sun deck outside the main lodge. With full views of the mountain, it’s a great place to keep the stoke alive watching your friends try new tricks and lay down the style in the park.

Methods Sports Bar:

Located in the main lodge at Bear Mountain, Methods Sports Bar is the place to be on game day. Catch a few runs and then watch your favorite teams on multiple big screens with craft beers, signature cocktails, and delicious pub fare available to order.

Bighorn Smokehouse:

Shredding all day requires fuel, and what could be better than a good meal from Snow Summit’s Southern-Style smokehouse? Located in the meadow area below Chair 1, it’s a great place to take a break and recharge between runs and scope your next line.

Hawks 52:

Old school après gets a modern makeover at Snow Summit’s main lodge, featuring signature cocktails – the Bloody Mary and Moscow Mule are off the charts – and a new interior that was updated before the 18/19 season.

Murray’s Saloon & Eatery:

Located in the Big Bear Village, Murray’s is a local favorite for late night shenanigans. It’s part dive bar, part karaoke lounge, and a surefire bet to be packed with partygoers of all ages and backgrounds and a great place find or a party full of your new best friends.

The Bowling Barn:

If you prefer picking up 7-10 splits to off-key singing, check out the aptly named Bowling Barn, located at the west end of town on Big Bear Boulevard. The big red building (like a barn, get it?) has 16 lanes, plus glow bowling nightly and a full-service snack and sports bar on-site.
