Explosive Device Found At Steamboat Ski Area

Usually the lift line is the last place you'd expect to find a bomb. Yet, according to Steamboat Today, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Rout County Sheriff's Office are on the hunt for the person responsible for an explosive device found at the base of Colorado's Steamboat Ski Area.

Deputies were called to the ski area around noon on October 7th to investigate the device found under the Pony Express lift line.

Not long after the device was uncovered, a bomb squad was called in from Jefferson County Sheriff's Department to defuse the device, which they ultimatelty rendered safe, according to a news release from the Rout County Sheriff's Department.

Although the device clearly resembled a bomb, "it wasn't intentionally placed to blow up the ski lift," said FBI spokeswoman Deborah Sherman. The investigation is still underway and "We're looking into who put it there and why," Sherman added.
