It’s not new that skiers and snowboarders have been riding the edge in Chamonix for many years, but a few years ago, a film emerged that truly showcased that edge in all its raw, rugged, extreme beauty. Sam Favret and Julien “Pica” Herry’s 2017 masterpiece Waking Dream brought us right into the heart of steep riding in one of the gnarliest places on the planet, into a sort of dream state where things we never thought possible do in fact occur.

Favret and Herry set out on some serious type-II fun, combining their expertise in the world of alpinism and freeriding into the pinnacle of human-powered mountain adventure – bringing a rowdy style to Chamonix classics formerly reserved for jump turns and skinny skis.
