Did Max Langille Just Land a World’s First Flat 1080 ?
Popular Stories
The bar for slopestyle progression just got raised. Max Langille, the Calgary-born rider now based in Squamish, may have just unlocked a holy grail trick during practice for the Crankworx Summer Series at SilverStar: a flat spin 1080.
While we've seen 1080s in mountain biking before—most famously Nicholi Rogatkin's corked-out "Twister" back in 2017—Langille's variation spins on a much flatter, more horizontal axis. It's a move that slopestyle pioneer Mike Montgomery was chasing over a decade ago but never managed to stick in competition.

Now, twelve years later, Langille appears to have cracked the code. Interestingly, he admitted he was actually aiming for the Twister, which suggests this groundbreaking variation might have been a happy accident. After landing it on his third try, Langille commented, "So stoked to win the battle of my first Twister, borderline straight 10."
Whether it was intentional or not, it’s a massive moment for the sport.
