Brian Head Resort Pushes Back Opening Day

The first turns of the season are often the sweetest. Across the country, skiers and riders are currently refreshing webcams, looking for any sign of a dump that signals winter's arrival. In Utah, Brian Head Resort, known for having one of the highest base elevations in the state at 9,600 feet, was initially poised to be one of the earliest to open its lifts. However, Mother Nature has thrown a wrench in the early-season plans. Brian Head Resort has been forced to delay their opening due to the warm weather.

The Unseasonable Warmth

Brian Head had originally aimed for a November 7th debut, which would have been a near-record early opening for the resort. Unfortunately, a stretch of unseasonably warm weather has swept across Southern Utah, and this lingering warmth is the primary culprit.

Ski resorts require specific cold and dry conditions to effectively produce the white stuff with their snowmaking equipment. Recent temperatures, even at the resort's high elevation, have been hitting the 40s during the day and hovering right around the freezing mark at night. Simply put, these temps just aren't cold enough for consistent snowmaking.

What it Means for Your Reservation

For those who locked in early reservations between November 7th and November 13th, the resort is providing a full credit. This credit is automatically issued and can be applied toward lift tickets later in the 2025–2026 season. Full refunds are also an option for guests who contact the reservations team.

The Long Game

The resort has officially updated its scheduled opening day, pushing the season launch back by one week. The new target is now Friday, November 14th. While the initial wait is tough, this delay serves as a powerful reminder that the start of the season is ultimately dependent on the weather. We’re all holding our breath and rooting for the mercury to drop in Utah. In the meantime, the anticipation is only building. Keep those mountain dreams fueled and your gear ready to rip for next week.
