Human remains found inside the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park are being investigated by the Gallatin County Coroner’s Office, the Bozeman Daily Chronicle reported.

On Wednesday, a person reported finding what was believed to be a human jaw bone while snowshoeing about a mile northeast of highway 191 inside the park.

On Thursday, searchers returned to the spot with dogs and found additional human remains and clothing scattered in the surrounding area, which officials believe is due to animal disturbance.

Determining the cause of death will be difficult, but authorities believe they have identified the body, although no name has been released yet, an NPS ranger told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle.
