Big Storm Drops Over 6 Feet on the Andes as South American Resorts Open
Popular Stories

South America’s ski season is kicking off with a bang as a powerful storm cycle slams the Andes, delivering serious snowfall to get the season rolling at resorts across Chile and Argentina. With two major systems tracking through the region this week, some areas are expecting over six feet of fresh snow.
After a relatively slow start resulting in shifting opening dates and a thin base, this storm could be just what resorts need to get lifts spinning for the season. One of the biggest winners so far appears to be Ski Corralco, located in Chile’s southern Andes. According to their latest Instagram update, Corralco plans to open June 19—and it’s currently forecasted to receive some of the deepest totals in the region.
Valle Nevado is open now, on the other hand, and is definitely worth checking out. Last year, the resort experienced a touch of the divine with a remarkable 6 feet of snow in 7 days.

Other major resorts throughout the Andes are watching the storm closely and should be up and running by the end of the month.

In any case, the Southern American winter season is certainly picking up right now. We're stoked for our homies in the southern hemisphere.
