Backcountry Skier Killed In Fall on Canada’s Mt. Haig

A 22-year-old backcountry skier passed away after taking a fall on Mt. Haig, a 8,570-foot peak which lies on the border between Alberta and British Columbia. The Lethbridge, AB man was reportedly struck by a falling rock while skiing on Saturday afternoon before falling himself, according to the CBC. Onlookers called emergency medical services before providing first aid, and helicopters with first responders were dispatched to the area.

The first responders located the man, but he was declared deceased on the scene. His body was recovered by a helicopter equipped with a long line. Police and park officials are investigating the death.
