Skier-Triggered Avalanche Catches Seven in Jackson Hole Backcountry South of JHMR

At approximately 3:15 p.m., a group of seven skiers was caught and carried in a large avalanche in North Bowl, below Lost Lifty, outside the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) boundary.

Six skiers were positioned on the apron beneath the cliff band, while a seventh skier, traversing slightly above the group, triggered a massive slide that quickly propagated across the slope. All seven were swept up in the avalanche.

One skier was partially buried, with only their ski boot visible above the surface. Fortunately, the group remained in close proximity, enabling them to perform a swift rescue. The buried skier had snow obstructing their airway and sustained injuries, but thanks to the team’s rapid response, they were quickly unearthed.
