There is always an element of segregation between summer sports and winter sports because of, well, snow. At most mountains, you choose one or the other. But at the March Snow-DH duathalon at Mountain Creek, you could have both. There were interesting conditions for both events, which made keeping your face off the ground quite difficult. After all, how can you have a downhill MTB race right next to a ski/snowboard slalom event?
The slalom had slushy and icy conditions, but it was nothing like the challenges that the bikers faced. The mud was slick as snot, and the snow portion at the bottom seemed almost unrideable. Regardless, it looked super fun to get out there, crash, laugh, get wet, get muddy, and just get loose. Grins were plastered across everyone's faces left to right. Lets hope this kind of duathalon catches on.
