2 Climbers Missing as Everest Season Kicks Kicks Off

2 Mongolian climbers have gone missing on Mount Everest and one Frenchman has died on Makalu as Nepal's spring climbing window kicks in.

Two Mongolian climbers have gone missing on Mt Everest and one Frenchman has died on nearby Mt Makalu as Nepal's spring climbing window kicks in, pushing the death toll for Nepal's 2024 season to 2. The news comes shortly after legendary climber Kami Rita extended his record to 29 successful summits of Mt Everest.

As record numbers of mountaineers from around the world attempt the costly and extremely dangerous feat of climbing the world's tallest mountain, tragedies like this have unfortunately become the norm. The window for climbing Everest is not very long-- everyone pushes for the summit when short weather windows allow--  big crowds and literal long lines only add to the hazard.

Despite these problems, we're hoping for a safe and successful rest of the season. Our hearts go out to all those affected by these tragedies.
