Owen Wright Wins Gold Coast Pro Two Years After Almost Dying at Pipeline

Almost two years ago Owen Wright almost died at Pipeline. It was December 2015 when he wiped out in heavy conditions. He came ashore and feel asleep on the beach and when he woke it was clear something was wrong. Owen suffered bleeding on the brain, severe memory loss, and trouble speaking.

Now almost two years later Owen is the feel-good story of the Quiksilver Gold Coast Pro. Wright returned to competition and beat out Kelly Slater, John John Florence, Gabriel Medina and the rest of the field to take home the win.
