Tanigawa: Claims More Lives Than Everest

Mount Tanigawa, one of the 100 famous mountains in Japan, borders the Gunma and Niigata Prefectures. Due to its location, the weather systems from the Asian continent and the Pacific meet in nasty displays of severe weather including wet slab avalanches and exposure to the elements.

“When you go up into the mountains, are you prepared [with the right] mental attitude for going into nature?” said the narrator of Okaken Cinema. “To what knowledge against snow and information for the mountain do you have? Do you have enough skills to help your crew when they [get] caught [in a] terrible avalanche?"

"Tanigawa-dake" is a film of a local man and his crew taking off for one of the most dangerous mountains in Japan in pursuit of the ultimate snowboarding experience, where the thrill of the snow is worth the risk of whatever the mountains might bring.
