Whistler Blackcomb makes Powerful Documentary about Skiing’s Future

On September 27, via Whistler Blackcomb, TELUS and Switchback Entertainment, comes The Big Picture, a four-part documentary series that will tackle topics about the future of the ski industry.

The goal: to start a dialogue that'll help us gain perspective on what lies ahead for skiing and snowboarding.

Alluding to shocking stats like, “75 percent of children in the UK spend less time outdoors than prison inmates,” and, “The number of ski areas in the U.S. has dropped almost 20 percent in the last two decades,” we’re all being asked to mull over climate change, backcountry access, the state of the industry, and the risks of losing kids to technology.

Not to make your Tuesday too heavy, but consider this: Is our thirst for adventure threatening our environment? What if kids stopped playing outside? Is the pull of the backcountry pushing our limits?

Since pointing fingers gets us nowhere, we’ve got to map out what we can do as individuals to be the change. Whistler Blackcomb is getting the (snow)ball rolling.
