Red Bull Tries to Make XC-Skiing Cool… Mildly Succeeds

Red Bull NordiX

If you think that cross country skiing can't be exciting, watch this clip.

A misunderstood breed, XC and Nordic skiers dot the ski town landscape, instantly recognizable in their uniform Swix apparel. Obsessing over the right type of wax for that current day, these intrepid athletes have the inhuman ability to push their bodies over countless uphill kilometers.

Often scoffed by their alpine counterparts, Red Bull is setting out to make XC-skiing cool. The biggest surprise is the mildly succeed in changing my perception of the sport in this video... the flamethrowers helped.

I don’t understand why this is titled as mildly successful. I think the ones that took part in this event did seem to enjoy it very well. Of course, this was something so different and it will take some time to get used to.
Why Is My Printer Not Printing

The tone in this post is a misunderstanding itself.

Everybody else knows that “all skiing is one,” knows there are all sorts of kinds of skiing. But for some non-reason, the media gives itself permission to make baffled poses about XC. As a member of the public, I refuse to let you have this permission. Knock it off.

...Skiing uphill is not inhuman: are you nuts? All you need is grip. Alpine tour skiers do it all the time with skins.

XC skiers don’t “push”—they ski.

XC is actually not scoffed at by anyone except media posers. It’s embarrassing. For you. Stop.

Red Bull technically has a problem with their concept due to mismatch of gear to terrain. If the skis used were a bit wider, with metal edges, we’d see more action and less pointless crashing. (Something like Fischer Spyder 62s.) It’s like sending alpine skiers down a slalom without metal edges. Silly. XC skiers do technical handling on flow-trails all the time and have a blast with the right gear.
