The 2014 Summer Ski Season Is ON In South America!

Well, as we close in on the 4th of July and the pinnacle of the 'Murican beach season (not to mention the US side about to sweat it out in the Brazilian heat today against Belgium - U-S-A!!), the other ski season-the one that takes places in those Southern Hemisphere dream destinations like Chile, New Zealand, Argentina-is just getting underway. Here Spaniard Adri Millan makes good on his recurring promise to spend the summer down in the headquarters of Argentinean steep skiing, the infamous Las Leñas ski area, and finds not a low-tide snowpack on bare rock nor pistes scoured by the ceaseless winds of the Andes, but all-time high-altitude blower in the temperamental month of June.

While Leñas is more famous for its otherwordly spines and couloirs, Adri still finds plenty to huck off around the well-known backcountry peak of Cerro Martin, sending a 360 off the cat track into a series of straightline cliff drops that would make even Ian McIntosh proud. ¡Vamos, Adri!

Looking to cure the summertime blues with some Spanish-speaking Southern Hemi shred this July, August, or September? Stay up on conditions and local info. on the South America 2014 thread in the TGR Forums, and check out the trips offered by our friends over at SASS Global Travel.
