Dam Big Climb: 535-foot Dam Becomes Climbing Wall

Brainstorming locations for a memorable climbing trip? Look no further than Switzerland and the Diga di Luzzone dam. The wall, which measures approximately 535 feet high, features bolts and holds placed by local climbing enthusiasts to create the world's largest man-made climbing wall.

The multipitch ascent consists of five relatively simple climbs, which range in difficulty from 5.9 to 5.10c. Even though this is a small and simple window, that's probably a great thing considering what 535 feet will to do your body- talk about getting a serious pump off this climb.

Nice article.

A note: the grades mentioned are a mixup between French numerical grades and the Yosemite decimal system. If they were talking between 5B and 6B, that would translate to 5.8-5.10c in the YDS.

Hey, thanks! And thank you for pointing that out - I’d briefly thought to double check if it was YDS, but upon seeing some of the holds, it didn’t look overly intense. Thank you for the fact check!
