Per year, LeBron James makes $20 million playing basketball. Cristiano Ronaldo makes $52 million playing soccer. And Floyd Mayweather makes $285 million boxing. And then there's Alex Honnold, the 30-year-old climber.
Like the aforementioned athletes, Alex Honnold is top of his game. But instead of raking in millions, he earns less than a dentist. For Honnold, however, money isn't a factor. He's got van-life dialed, and he's used to living off less than a grand a month, having spent years fueled by $0.68 Walmart pasta meals.
Honnold doesn't buy personal ATM machines (unlike former NBA player DeShawn Stevenson), or pet tigers (unlike former boxer Mike Tyson). Instead, he donates one third of his annual earnings to environmental non-profits, and spends the rest on one-step-above-boxed-pasta food.
For Honnold, only one thing truly matters: climbing, and doing so for life. Fame doesn't excite him. What does? The fact his fame will keep him on the wall and out of cubicles. Screw the corner office; tall routes are where it's at.

Alex Honnold is a man who should be a role model for many children, not LeBron, not Floyd and not Cristiano but Alex Honnold. I respect you so much, because you do what you love and you do not care about the money. That is impressive, to say the least. Keep up the good work!
