Portillo, Chile Pushing 20 Feet of Snow to Date!

Portillo ski resort high in the Chilean Andes is seeing a stellar season even after nearly a month without new snow.  The drought ended this week.  The popular ski destination known for steep terrain and jaw dropping vistas is claiming 18.80 feet of snow so far this season.  Close to 4 feet fell just this week.

Hotel Portillo at 9,450 feet above sea level.  If you have the lungs, legs, patience and experience you can get those steep lines above the hotel.  Prefer lift access terrain, Portillo's lifts access some great terrain as well.

The base at Portillo is the deepest currently found amongst the Chilean ski resorts.  Thanks the the mega storm that dropped 9-10 feet in early June, plus this weeks 4 foot "top-off" Portillo is claiming a 68 inch base at the hotel and an impressive 627 inches base at Jucalillo. 

While Portillo focuses on selling week long ski packages with a choice of 3 ski in ski out lodges, you can also do day trips from Santiago or Los Andes.  The drive is about 2 hours depending on traffic and road conditions.  Lift tickets are currently around $65 USD for July powder skiing.
